Dietary Switches?!

Question: What are some diatary switches I can do in everyday life that will cut out calories or make the meal I'm going to eat healthier? I don't have enough money to buy a bunch of fancy things though.
For example, tonight I am going to have a salad with croutons, tomatoes, and Italian Dressing. Then I am having oven roasted potatoes in rosemary and olive oil. And a fried cubesteak.
Do you have any suggestions for this meal or jsut every day cooking?

The healthiest thing to do is start with what you drink. Stick to water as your primary drink and that will help you be healthier (avoid sodas, sweetened, carbonated beverages, and too much fruit juice. Avoid too much caffeine and even all the chemicals in decaf). Nonfat milk is healthy, full of protein and low calorie. I drink water all day (filtered water) and still have a nonfat latte once a day or some herbal tea. I occasionally have a cup of coffee (regular), but I try to drink mostly water.

For meals, add more vegetables and fresh fruit to your diet. Healthy natural fiber from fruits, veggies and whole grains is a great way to make a meal healthier.

Looking at your menu, I'd do this:

For the salad, add fresh fruit or veggies (perhaps a salad with pears, toasted pecans, and a little blue cheese....or if you prefer, load it up with carrots, different colors of peppers, tomatoes, green beans, artichokes, etc). Keep the dressing down to a tablespoon or two. Maybe don't add the croutons.

The potatoes are fine....be very light with the olive oil and very light with any added salt.

Can you grill the cubesteak? It's much healthier than frying.

Good luck. I hope this helps.
