Good Food For Diabetics?!

Question: I have lots of problems with my blood sugar and want to know some good recipes that would work for me. I don't eat pork or seafood and I don't have enough money to buy specialty items. Can anyone help? I'm up for anything!

Lizard has the best advice. Eat lot's chicken grilled, baked, ect and veggies. If you can't afford fresh veggies go for frozen ones. you can buy a bag of frozen veggies at walmart for a dollar. Just stay away from fast food, and lot's of starches. But don't completely cut them out of your diet. you still need some carbs, just don't over do it. be sure to buy whole grain or whole wheat breads. when ever you come across some extra money stock your pantry with baking supplies if you find that you have a sweet tooth. Baking sugar free desserts is not any more money than baking ones with sugar.

Just eat a healthy diet and stay away from processed foods with a lot of sugar. There are lots of diabetic recipes on-line, but they really aren't anything special.

Mostly I limit my number of carbs, (potatoes, or pasta, or rice or corn...) I try to stick with a lot of fruits and veggies.
I was gestational diabetic when I had my son, and since I still have to keep an eye or my blood sugar will sky rocket.

Chicken was the best meat I found for versatility.

use splenda its good for diabetics

My husbands diabetic and i stick to one general rule, don't eat anything that has a label. Stick to whole foods, veggies, fruits, wholegrains, sprouts, nuts, meats with little fat. Its not about the absence of sugar, its about eating natural sugars in the form of fruit in moderation. Less salt helps too because it makes you crave the sweet things less. Eat a couple completely vegetarian dishes every week. A great side dish I make for hubby is Puy Lentils (french blue-green variety) cooked until just chewy, then put in a salad of rocket and baby spinach with olive oil balsamic dressing. The less carbs the better as well. Sorry this isn't a recipe, but these tips will help you to eat healthier and maintain your blood sugar levels!
