Put regular plates in a low temp oven???!

Question: I am wondering if anyone ever puts regular kitchen plates in their oven to warm up food? My hubby comes home after supper sometimes, I'm thinking about fixing him a plate and them putting it in at a low temp in the oven a half hour before he gets home. What do you think?

We don't have a working microwave.

I would be real careful with this. Some plates can't stand the high heat (no matter how low) and will crack. Also what you will be doing is continuing to cook the food even though it is on low.

You might try saving your husbands meal in a foil lined baking dish and not cooking it all the way done. Then when he is about 20 minutes away from home place it back in the oven and let it finish cooking. This way it isn't microwaved or over cooked.

That's the way your Grandma did it. Don't go over 200 degrees.

Just make sure the plates are completely lead-free, heat will allow lead to leach into the food (even at low temps),lead is detrimental to your health...if you don't know for sure I wouldn't risk it...heat his dinner on a glass pyrex pie plate instead...just a suggestion...

Keep it no higher then 200 and you definatly can keep a plate warm. Heck my mom still does it for my dad. If you wanna keep the temp at 150 keep the plate covered with foil and it wont dry out at all. Happy Eating
