How do you know if your chopped walnuts are bad?!

Question: I have had them in the fridge for a couple of years. I also have old olive I don't know what I can do with it. Could I use it on my skin, cook with it? I also have canned goods out of date, I saw a commercial years ago that says canned goods last 7 years.I think dating water is a bit ridculous. Any ideas?

They are bad - the fats in them will begin to go rancid and smell faintly of crayons.
Same with the olive oil - if its bad, it will kinda smell like crayons. Once it goes rancid - its bad for your health. I could give you a long lecture on why, but its boring and has a lot of big words, so just trust me. Throw it out or use it for cleaning rusted metal in a big coffee can.

Out of date canned goods are usually iffy - I wouldn't suggest them, I have tried. The bad thing about canned goods that have gone bad - is that the bacteria/pathogens that can make them deadly have no smell....so dont trust your nose, and dont taste them either. A small taste can be enough to make you seriously ill....which isn't worth a 79 cent can of corn.

Water - dont know about that

if you eat them and you die, they're bad

If they smell bad.

You must keep nuts in the freezer. The oils in nuts go rancid. Olives in the fridge last quite a while but then white things start floating around, when in doubt toss. When I need to buy a lot of canned goods to keep in stock( because I live so far from the market, I buy on sale and write the date on the lids keep in a cool place so I can rotate, Yes they last a long time .

throw both in the trash. rancid is rancid and should not be used on your skin, in your food or anywhere else.
