What's a good substitute for garam masala?!

1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp crumbled bay leaves
1/8 tsp ground cloves
i've tried it and you can't tell!..i know it's alot

Garam Masala (Indian spice blend)
(makes 1/4 cup)

Ingredients:



1 tablespoon cumin seeds

1 tablespoon coriander seeds

2 teaspoons black peppercorns

12 cardamom pods

8 whole cloves

1 2-inch cinnamon stick, broken into pieces

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg



Directions:



1. Place cumin, coriander, peppercorns, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon in a skillet over medium-high heat.
2. Cook until spices start to smoke and become aromatic. Constantly shake skillet for about 5 minutes then stir in nutmeg.
3. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
4. Place toasted spices in a spice or cleaned out coffee grinder and grind until finely ground.
5. Store in an airtight container.
