Can I cook a roast when it's frozen ?!
Answers: I have a nice roast in my freezer, and I was thinking that I'd like to cook it, but I don't want to wait until it's thawed. Would that be detrimental to the roast ?
Yes, you can. I do it all the time. I use a roaster pan with a lid and use water in the bottom of it. I have used both high temps and low if I will be cooking all day and not be back until dinner. The steam created by the water thaws it pretty quickly when it has a lid on it. Enjoy your roast!!
That would be a mistake. The outside will cook too much, and the inside will remain raw. You could probably thaw it in the microwave, though.
It would take forever to cook from frozen, you wouldn't be able to season it well and by the time the center was cooked enough the outside would be dry and possibly burnt. Don't do it, you won't be happy with the result.
It would be dangerous to your health to cook it frozen. You MUST defrost it first.
Short answer, YES. You would end up burning the outermost layers of the roast and the inside would cook at an unsafe temperature.
Just put the roast in an impenetrable plastic bag (preferably zip lock) and soak it in warm/hot water. It should only take a maximum 20 minutes to thaw out. If the water gets cold, add more warm water.
Yep, you can. A slwo cooker is definitely the best way to go w/ a frozen roast, though, to keep the outside from burning while the inside is still raw.
Delicious & Easy Crockpot Beef Roast
1 chuck or rump Beef Roast (sized for your crockpot)
? Cup of Water
1 Packet of Ranch Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Italian Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Brown Gravy Mix
Put roast in crockpot, pour water around the base. Sprinkle all 3 dry seasoning packets over roast. Cover and cook for 6-7 hours on low. Remove roast to cutting board and let sit 15 minutes; slice thinly across the grain. This makes great tasting gravy too!
To make a tender roast put it into your oven frozen, yes frozen.
Place it into your cooking container garnish it with veggies, seasonings or what ever you like, pour in a can of Beef Stock (can use Chicken Stock too) and 1-2 cups of water (if the pot will hold it). Put in the oven on low (I put it on at 250 degrees F).
I normally put my roast in oven at 3:00 pm and cook it until supper time at 7:00 pm.
When you cook it frozen at a low temp for at least 4 hours, the roast will be the tenderest.
Yes it would be very detrimental to the roast. The outside would cook before the inside would thaw out completely. The temperature difference could (and likely would) be so great that the roast would burn on the outside before the inside passed the stage of raw or rare.
I never defrost a roast and make it on top of the stove or in the oven. Add a bit of water. You can add potatoes, carrots, etc. Cook long and slow and it will be fork tender.
