Best cake recipe?!

Question: Everytime i make a cake from scratch it comes out tasting more like corn bread (i have no idea why!) rather than cake.
Can someone give me the best plain cake recipe?
Something that actually taste like cake..

A really good pound cake recipe:

* 1/2 cup shortening
* 1 cup butter
* 2 1/2 cups white sugar
* 5 eggs
* 2 teaspoons almond extract
* 1 cup milk
* 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
* 3 cups cake flour

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Lightly grease and flour a 10 inch Bundt pan.
2. Cream shortening, butter and sugar until light and fluffy (for best results use an electric mixer). This will take a while. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in almond extract.
3. Combine baking powder and flour. Stir into creamed mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with flour. Pour batter into prepared pan.
4. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.

My favorite is Better than Sex Cake and its easy:

1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
6 ounces caramel ice cream topping
3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered toffee, chopped
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

DIRECTIONS
Bake cake according to package directions for a 9x13 inch pan; cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. Make slits across the top of the cake, making sure not to go through to the bottom.
In a saucepan over low heat, combine sweetened condensed milk and caramel topping, stirring until smooth and blended. Slowly pour the warm topping mixture over the top of the warm cake, letting it sink into the slits; then sprinkle the crushed chocolate toffee bars liberally across the entire cake while still warm. (Hint: I crush my candy bars into small chunks as opposed to crumbs - I like to have pieces I can chew on!)
Let cake cool completely, then top with whipped topping. Decorate the top of the cake with some more chocolate toffee bar chunks and swirls of caramel topping. Refrigerate and serve right from the pan!

Otherwise the easiest cake ever is a Jell-o Cake (don't let the name freak you out!

Ingredients:
1 box white cake mix
1 box jello (any flavor, strawberry or raspberry taste REAL good)
1 regular tub whipped cream
Fresh strawberries optional

Directions:
1. Make white cake as directed in a rectangular pan
2. Let cake cool, poking many holes on top (usually with a fork)
3. Prepare jello, but leave in a liquid state
4. Pour liquid jello all over cake and let soak and sit
5. Frost with whipped cream
6. Cut up fresh strawberries or other fruit and sprinkle on top
Its the most flavorful and moist cake you will EVER have :)
