How many minutes per pound do you simmer a corned beef?!

Question: Mines almost 4 pounds and I remember to simmer it awhile, change the water so its not all salty and simmer it some more before veggies go in but I forget how long to do it before changing water and how long after to put veggies in. Thanks.

I'm sorry this answer is so late. I just read your question and don't like the other "answers" you got...I don't think any of them answered your question!.

Here's how I always make my corned beef - because it's how my mother always made it and it's always delicious!

Cover the brisket with water (add seasoning packet if it came with one), bring to a boil and then reduce to simmer for about 3 hours on top of the stove (covered oven safe pan or dutch oven). Remove brisket and dump out water - semi-clean pan if there's alot of "scum" stuck on the edges. Put cabbage wedges in bottom of pan. Add carrots (I like to zap them a bit in the microwave first so they'll be fully cooked), then potato halves or quarters. Top with corned beef brisket. Add about an inch of water. Recover pan and put in 350 F oven for an hour.

I can't wait for our corned beef dinner on St. Patty's! I hope you weren't trying to have yours today.

how about if you cook it in the crock pot? its really easy, and worry free. i love corn beef in the crock pot!

15 min per pound

I make mine in the slow cooker. After about 4 hours I add fresh cabbage and carrots and I dont change the water.
Yum-Yum!
I haven't made one in a while. Thanks for the idea!!
