How to prepare large, live oysters in shell?!

Question: Do I do it the same way as clams? Like... soak them in cornflour and water and then put them in butter/wine/lemon until they open? Or..... am I supposed to do something different. I am a vegetarian so I don't eat them and I'm not sure exactly what to do. These are very large.

I love those things, I rinse them off first giving them a good inspection, cus you never know whats stuck on the outside of them, then I either grill em until they start to open up, shuck em, add a little tabasco sauce and lemon to taste and simply enjoy. U can also steam em untill they start to open up too.

Shuck em and eat them raw. It is the best way.

I enjoy them by doing this: Light up ur barbeque, (charcoal is fine, but propane is good too), and put them on there. Let them cook until their shells begin to get black. Not entirely black though! Then open them very carefully because they will be very hot, and dip them in melted butter. Add some seasonings to your melted butter to make it extraordinary!
Tip: Use thick gloves, not fabric, to turn your oysters. It is easier then using tongs!

They are really best eaten raw. They need to be cleaned, shucked and slurped. Some folks eat them with a bit of lemon juice, or horseradish, or cocktail sauce. Purists use a migonette and I served them last week with a mignonette granita from myrecipes.com

1 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup dry red wine
1 tablespoon minced shallot
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
Combine ingredients in a large bowl, stirring until sugar dissolves. Pour mixture into a shallow dish; freeze, uncovered, 3 hours or until firm. Flake ice mixture with a fork. Scoop a bit over oysters.

If you want them cooked, look for oysters rockefeller recipes or grilled oyster recipes. Enoy.
