What to do with 1lb of stew meat?!

Question: I have 1lb of stew meat and don't know what to do with it. I normally get home at 5 with two starving children ready for dinner *now*....any ideas?

Does stew meat make good stirfry? I thought it was too tough for that.....?

Poor Man's beef stroganoff is fast.

broil it..that is a quick way too cook it. Let it marinate in a seasoning in a zip baggie all day while you are gone.

Slice the meat thin, marinate it, and then stir-fry.

make soup/stew.
first give them a apple or something. then,
Get it browned and simmering. Add tomatoes to get it tender quick. If using potatoes put in now. Dont' peel, just cut into large chunks. While that is going, distract the kids with bath and play.
Get them out of the tub and run to kitchen, add veggies/pasta.
Back to kids. Dress for bed. Stir soup. Finish kids if necessary.
Feed kids. Put in bed.
relax
it can be done in 1 hour.

I like Mopar's answer...the only thing I would suggest differently is to slice the meat thinly as to cut down the cooking time.

Slow cookers are great for busy people. I am making dinner now and typing to you. :)

I dont leave the house tho, when I am using it.

I use stew meat for all kinds of stuff. It works for stir-fry (we just had that last night), beef and noodles (beef, beef gravy, mushrooms and onions optional, over egg noodles), homemade soup to name some off the top of my head. Do you normally plan your meals before you go shopping? Just curious. I know that makes it a lot easier on THIS working mom when I'm trying to decide what's for dinner. I have a list of things to pick from and I know I already have everything I need to make it. If your kids are old enough, have them go through some cookbooks and pick out their favorite recipes, or have them pick 5-7 before you go shopping each time. Make sure you keep track of which cookbook and what page. Another trick I do is to label each recipe on the list "A" for one that has several quickly-perishable ingredients like red bell pepper or fresh mushroom or "B" for one whose ingredients have longer shelf life.

Makes shopping easier, too, AND cooking is a lot less stressful! Contact me at www.pamperedchef.biz/janicetippett for more ideas - I'm full of 'em!

beef stroganoff, beef stew, beef burgundy, kabobs, stir fry

You can do lots with it. You can cut it smaller for stir fry, add some meat tenderizer to it. I also make like a cheap cheater stroganoff with it. Brown it in a pan, add some cream of mushroom soup a little sour cream. Make some egg noodles, a veggie and that's it. Serve it over the noodles the cream of mushroom makes a gravy. My kids love it, they love the noodles. But if your don't like the noodle try it with rice. It takes aprrox. 20 minutes.

Dump the meat in the crockpot tomorrow morning, with some peeled & 1/4d potatoes, a sliced onion, 2 cans of mushroom soup, & an envelope of onion soup mix. Cover & cook low about 8 hrs. The meat will be nice & tender, & you can eat as soon as you get home. Just add salad & bread or rolls.
