I'm baking a cake in a metal 13x9 cake pan. I don't really want to leave it in that..any ideas?!
Answers: I'm not a baker or a chef and don't really know what to do with it. I was thinking of (trying) to take it out of the pan and put it in a large serving platter and then frosting it.. is that tacky?
Nope, that doesn't sound tacky at all...I've done that many times!
A quick tip in how to make it easier to get the cake out the pan: Spray the pan with Baker's Secret before adding the cake batter. Baker's Secret is an aerosol spray, much like Pam, but it also contains flour, which helps the cake come right out the pan when baked. You can find Baker's Secret right next to the Pam in your grocery store. Also, do you have a 13"x9" cake cooling rack? If so, put that over the cake once it's baked and turn the cake upside down and it will fall nicely onto the rack to cool. If you don't have a cooling rack, no problem. You can invert your cake onto a rectangle serving tray or, as others have mentioned, a piece of foil-covered heavy cardboard. A nice way to dress up the cardboard is to buy a rectangle cake doily to place on the cardboard before you invert the cake onto the board. (To invert = to turn upside down) Cake doilies can usually be found at cake supply stores or even at dollar stores like Dollar Tree. Actually, you may very well be able to find a nice serving platter the size you need there as well.
If you need to cover the cake to transport it, just poke a few toothpicks on each corner and mid-way around the sides and also a couple in the middle of the cake, then wrap cover it carefully with plastic wrap. Voila! Instant cake cover!

no its not tacky, but do you have baking parchment? It will make removal much much easier. If not, use alot of Pam(cooking spray) and dust with flour or chocolate powder( for a chocolate cake) and let it cook quite abit before in verting it on a tray and ice...YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
If you grease and flour the pan, the cake should come out after proper cooling. If the cake is chocolate, use cocoa powder rather than flour the sake of appearance. If I don't have to transport the cake, I often turn it out onto a cutting board for frosting and serving. Just set then board over the pan, press the two together, and flip.
I don't know what you are asking...if you want to take it out...go ahead..make sure it's entirely cool before frosting...wrap in plastic wrap....you'll need a placement platter for something that big before you use the wrap...it's just a cake...it'll be fine
That's not tacky, that's much more sophisticated than leaving it in the pan.
no..thats fine!! actually, u may want to frost the cake and decorate or whatever, then cut into squares and organize micely on fancy plate
The problem with a 9x13 pan is that it is hard to find a platter with dimensions to accomodate such a cake.
Cover a large piece of cardboard with foil and turn the cake out on top. Be sure you make enough icing to frost the sides of the cake.
Spray the pan with Pam. and then sprinkle regular granulated sugar over it all. This will stop it from sticking. When the cake comes out of the oven, let it sit for about 10 mins, then run a dull knife around the sides. Upend it onto whatever serving platter or plate you want, and frost when it is cool.. Very much NOT tacky. Leaving it in the pan would be though.
Grease the bottom of the pan, and put a layer of either parchment paper (preferred) or wax paper in the bottom of the pan. Then grease and flour the entire pan, including the top of the parchment paper. Invert the cake onto a platter or aluminum foil covered cardboard when it's finished baking, and peel the parchment off the cake carefully. I do it all the time, it will work fine. It's not tacky to take the cake out of the pan. Just decorate the entire cake once it cools.
