Rotten eggs??!
Answers: How can you tell if an eggs is rotten? My nose is stuffy so i cant tell if its bad that way...
A truly rotten egg is an olfactory experience that you can hardly miss. Just awful! Plus, it will look rotten.
I get my eggs from a friend who raises chickens. I have learned to crack my eggs one at a time into a bowl rather than break them into my recipe. You just never know---and the float trick is more often wrong than not.
Place the eggs in a bowl of water. If they float, throw them away.
I've heard what the first answer said. I also just break them and see if they look normal. I've had eggs a month past the 'sell by' date that were fine (I even tried the float test).
If eggs are stored properly rarely do they go bad. Many large grocery chains return eggs to their supplier, only to have the supplier re-wash the egg, repackage the egg and send it out.
When you look at the egg the smaller the diameter of the yolk and the higher the yolk, the fresher the egg is. If the yolk is low and spread out it's not too fresh. Of course this assumes you haven't broken the yolk.
One other rule from the food industry.....
"When in doubt, throw it out"
Those are words to live by and not be sick.
Edi W is right. Stale eggs will float. Leave them in the shell tho'. Put one in a cup of water and see if it floats to the top.
