Meals kids can prepare?!
Answers: My daughter is almost 11 and wants to make a meal for our family once a week. What are some fun recipes that she can try?
Thats a great idea, so many kids now how no clue how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. I suggest going to Krafts website and letting her browse recipes. You and she should sign up so that you will have your own recipe box to save the recipes in. MOst of the recipes have an image of the finished product as well as suggestions on what to serve it with. They have a message board, how-to videos and lots more. The recipes are fairly simple with easy to find ingredients. I like to read the reviews form people who have tried the recipes too

At 11 she can make just about anything. Most 11 year olds enjoy baking cookies, cake, etc... She can also learn to make casseroles, spaghetti sauce, chili, or anything she wants to make.
Be close by so she can ask questions.
Pasta is always easy. I make this fake lasagna all the time and everyone loves it. Mix together a box of slightly undercooked ziti with a jar of tomato sauce, small container of ricotta cheese, 2/3 bag of shredded mozz and sliced chicken sausage. Bake at 350 covered for about 1/2 hour, then top with the rest of the cheese and bake uncovered until the top is crunchy, and the leftovers are good too.
Baked quesadillas are also good. We make these a lot with leftovers, but there are a ton of great combos out there to make.
Chicken wings are also good. I don't know why but my daughter loves to eat small food. A little seasoning salt before she goes to school. Then she can bake them for dinner. I really don't see the difference between frying. Make hot, bbq, any type of wings you like.
I am an educator so I take every opportunity I can to teach her (she's only 6 so some of these activities are less significant) something. On Sunday as a family we choose a country. Then during the week we pick some recipes from that country we think look good. We try and decide what foods are indiginous or if they have a national dish. We also have a budget of $30, so we go to the market and I let her find all the foods we need for our recipes. Then we make them. Sometimes they are good, sometimes not so good. We always have a frozen pizza for good measure.

Also, my daughter and her friends use to love to make pizzas from flour tortillas, jars of spaghetti sauce and meats and veggies and cheeses. Have fun.
My son and I make cheesey quesadillas together. No chopping involved.
6" flour tortilla
1 tbsp butter
1/2 cup shredded cheese
(salsa, shredded chicken are optional)
(sour cream optional for dipping)
melt butter in skillet over medium heat
place tortilla in skillet for 2 minutes
turn tortilla over, sprinkle cheese on half (salsa/cheese if desired)
fold tortilla over to form crescent shape
allow to cook for 1 minute until all cheese is melted
remove from heat, allow to cool on plate for 1 minute
use pizza cutter to slice into pizza shaped wedges
serve
Mini kid-made pizzas
one tube homestyle biscuits (8 individual servings)
marinara or spaghetti sauce
pepperoni slices
shredded cheese
preheat oven as directed on biscuit tube
separate biscuits
use hands or rolling pin to roll biscuit dough flat to 4" wide
place flattened doughs on baking sheet
use spoon to spread sauce over all the flattened "crusts"
add pepperoni slices liberally
cover with shredded cheese
bake as directed on biscuit package
allow all pizzas to cool for three minutes
serve
good luck and have fun ~
