Can I make a roux using Crisco instead of butter?!

Question: Will it work right, and will it taste ok?

Answers: Will it work right, and will it taste ok?

sure thats fine , butter has a better taste , but as long as its equal part fat and flour it should come out great !!

yes it will work, the butter flavor is better.
itg tastes alittle bland but add some spice

You can.... but you can also use veg oil, olive oil, etc.

yes, and yes.

yes. just add spices. butter is much better for more flavor

Will it be right? Yes. You will produce roux.

Will it tast ok? It will not be as flavorful as the roux made with butter, but you can remedy this by adding boullion cubes, wine, cream, herbs, etc.

You have the right attitude and spirit. Do not be afraid to try new stuff. Your family and friends will appreciate your efforts. And think how great it makes you feel seeing them all enjoy your cooking!

Good luck.

Sorry, but I'm a butter fanatic! I think that it would not taste the same. It might be alright, but not the same! I have used various different butter, lard, margarine in my chicken wing sauce and nothing comes close to the real butter. I would imagine the same goes for roux.

Yes & Yes, just won't taste like a butter roux. I like using bacon fat. Gives my roux a smokey flavor my family likes.
