How long will a screw top bottle of red wine last in the cupboard after it has been opened?!

Question: I don't want to drink it I want to cook with it, but I don't know how long it has been there....definitely more than 4 weeks.

Good or no goood?

In most cases you shouldn't cook with anything you wouldn't drink. take a sip and if it still tastes ok use it. Or you could cook it down to a syrup as it will sweeten as it reduces and use it for a flat bread topping or over shellfish.

it would work for cooking, though it may have taken on more of a vinegar flavor so just use a little less.

If it still tastes good then its still good. The amount of time it will last is very difficult to say. Just don't cook with wine you wouldn't drink.

Drinking wine should be refrigerated after opening so I would say probably no good. If it's red cooking wine it should be fine.

Taste it, that's the only way you could tell.
But I think 4 weeks olds are fine, I've used 2 months old wine (sauvignon blanc) for cooking and it didn't ruin the dish.

I have used old wine in pot roast, stews and spaghetti sauce. But old wine will probably not be good for delicate sauces.
