Can I prepare the veg for my roast tonight and leave it all in the slow cooker overnight before cooking?!

Question: I always run late in the mornings so wanted to put my entire dinner in the slow cooker tonight and just flick the switch as I leave tomorrow. Involves using sliced carrots and potato as the roasting rack for a whole chicken, which is still semi-frozen. If I put the veg in tonight (I figure the moisture from the chicken as it defrosts won't do them any harm), will they look horrible and discoloured after a night in the slow cooker before I turn it on to cook? OR will they actually not be safe to eat???

i would not let your veg or chicken sit out over night. do u have a slow cooker that the insides come out...if you do stick that in the frig overnight.(with everything in it) if not just put everything in a big bowl in the frig and just throw it in the slow cooker in the morning. if you have everything set tonight. it wont take long to put it together in the morning. and you will be on your way to work..

They might be rather mushy, but they'll be safe to eat.

Personally I would store the veggies in a bowl covered with water in the fridge. It might be ok in the crock, but I wouldn't want to be the guinea pig..

I would never do that, not a good idea, would be too worried about bacteria, cut up veg. separate, store in a bowl, then just add ingredients together before you leave, you want to make it really great, put a can of cream of chicken soup with it ( no water)

They will be fine, I do it often.

Ive done it before and never had any problems. If you use potatoes they can brown, tho, if you dont cover them with water.

If the crock part of your slow cooker comes out you can put in your whole meal then bring it out of refridgerater in morning and put back in slow cooker and turn on low and your meal should be done in around 10 to 12 hours hope this helps.
