Taco's are great but can i give you a varition on the great taco recipe....

2 lbs ground beef (85% lean)
3 portobello mushrooms
1 whole onion
1/2 lb chihauha cheese
1/2 lb mozzarella cheese
2 tbs pepperika
2 tbs chili powder
2 tbs cayanne powder
1 tbs garlic powder
4 tbs olive oil
Taco shells
salt & pepper
2 tbs balsamic vinegar
1 tbs sugar
1/2 cup red wine
Chopped lettuce
Tomato

you will need at least three bowls.

1) Dice your onion and top the sugar on the onion and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes.

2) In a bowl, place the beef, add salt and pepper, cayanne pepper, chili powder, pepperika, wine, balsamic vinegar and 3 tsp of olive oil. Mix together and let it sit.

3) In a frying pan, place the onions. Cook until carmelized, once carmelized add the meat. Mix throughly and in 5-10 minutes you should have fully cooked meat and onion mixture. Chop the Portobello mushroom into strips and add in to the meat mixture in the final 3 minutes.

4) Prepare your shells by placing the cheese on the bottom. I know it isn't conventional but it will allow to melt and then add the cool veggies on top.

It should be really yummy...You can add sour cream if you wish!!!

ENJOY!!

I use a seasoning mix that comes in a packet and follow the directions for the beef. Then I put on lettuce, tomato, sour cream, taco sauce, and sometimes onions.

Tacos are soooo easy to make. Shred your lettuce, dice your tomatoes, shred your cheese, make your salsa, and your guacamole - to have on the side. Cook your ground beef, breaking it up until no longer pink. Drain off the grease, add a package of Taco seasonings and the water it calls for on the package. Some people use those pre-cooked and shaped taco shells but they always taste "old" so take some corn tortillas, put some oil in a skillet, heat the oil, and add the tortilla, quickly cooking each side, shape on a paper towel, and put together your taco with the meat, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, and whatever you want on the side.

Enjoy!!

I just follow the recipe on the box of El Paso tacos.

Well if you dont want to use the taco season mix this is how i prepare my meat...

start browning meat and add some 1/2 onion diced, 1/2 can or fresh dices tomatos, cumin, celery seed, chili powder, onion powder, garlic (powder, fresh, or dried) salt and pepper.

i do also make my tortilla from scratch. just fry corn tortilla on both sides and shape into taco shell. drain on paper towels.

I serve with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, salsa and cheese.

My dad prepares the standard recipe but also adds Heinz chili sauce. Then he deep fries a soft shell with the meat inside for maybe less then 20 seconds. Very FATTENING but it's pretty tasty!

are you wanting to know an alternative to using seasoning packets.
..for 2 pounds of ground beef
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of chili power
2 tablespoons of paprika
1 teaspoon Cumin
1 tsp Garlic powder or 2 cloves minced
combine add to Ground beef along with 1 cup water...

This is the single most important thing. DO NOT USE HAMBURGER! Instead, use canned corned beef (NOT corned beef hash). Brown and add the packaged taco seasoning. And, use the corn tortillas and heat and shape them yourself. Don't use the pre-shaped ones. Then, add all of your favorites---diced tomatoes, lettuce, black olive pieces, sour cream, salsa, whatever you like. These are the best and you'll be spoiled for life!

Puffy taco shells
Ingredients:
2 cups of masa harina
1 1/4 cups of water
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 quart of peanut or canola oil

Mix masa harina, water and salt together until it forms into a soft ball. If it’s too dry, add a bit more water a tablespoon at a time.
Divide dough into 16 equal balls, and press out with a tortilla press or roll out with a rolling pin.
Keep pressed discs covered with a damp cloth.
Heat up two inches of oil in a pot or skillet to 350 degrees.
Gently place a disc in the hot oil and it should immediately start to puff. After five seconds, with a spatula, make an indention in the center so it forms a V shape.
Gently cook the shell on each side until light brown and crispy (about 20 seconds for each side).
Remove from oil and drain on a paper towel.
Stuff with spicy ground beef, shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheddar and salsa and serve immediately.

Makes 16 tacos.
