I want to marinade a steak, how much do you use and what exactly should you use? Just on top or covered?!

Question: Thanks.

Its a "perfect portion" sirloin steak, and I don't like "sweet" marinades. I'm like a garlic type marinade...

I'm new at this, advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Italian Dressing is a great marinade.

Me, I like to butter mine and sprinkle them with garlic powder and grill them outside on the grill.

If it is a god steak there is really no reason to marinade it. Marinades are to tenderize.

garlic , pepper, salt, oil, vinegar, maybe a little wine. cover meat.

ROAST (STEAK) MARINADE

1/2 cup vegetable or peanut oil
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup red wine
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
3 tablespoons wine or balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon garlic powder or 4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper

Optional Additions: 1/2 teaspoon each celery salt, or fresh ginger, minced, 2 teaspoons soy sauce, chives and shallots. If you would like to add 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, omit ginger and soy sauce. Note: 1 1/2 teaspoons of Good Seasons Italian Dressing (dry and unmixed) may be substituted for the salt, pepper, and garlic powder for a quick marinade. A spicier version can be made by adding 1/4-1/2 teaspoon of hot red pepper flakes, cayenne or hot sauce.
Combine all ingredients. If you have a blender available, all the hand chopping can be avoided - just toss in the garlic, parsley, etc. and add the liquids and seasonings, then blend.

In a Ziploc bag, marinate steak for 4 to 8 hours (overnight for best results). Cook on grill until desired degree of doneness is reached. Serve with baked potato and a garden salad.

Believe it or not I like to use regular Italian dressing and then add chopped garlic and some balsamic vinegar. I marinate it at least 3 hours and better 12 to 24. I find it always seems to work well and it is easy.

1/2 c. soy sauce
4 tbsp. olive oil
4 tbsp. honey
2 tbsp. wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp. ground ginger

Just put it in a ziplock with the marinade and leave it for at least 30 minutes, 1-2 hours would be better. Its yummy!

I use fat free Italian dressing, because it doesn't separate (oil from the vinegar) and you get even flavor from the marinade that way. You can marinade it in a ziplock bag. When you marinade the whole piece of meat should be covered with the marinade.

Mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, crushed garlic, and water. Place this marinade in a ziploc with the steaks. Shake to completely coat the steaks. Let the steaks marinate in this bag, in the fridge, for a few hours (1 - 4).

Enjoy!

Here's what I would do:
poke the steak with a fork a few times on each side
on each side, brush on some olive oil, then sprinkle with sea salt, pepper, and garlic powder (or you can rub it with some crushed garlic)
let it sit overnight
grill to your liking
brush with melted butter, sprinkle a bit more sea salt

Just use Italian Dressing--chunky if possible. Put it into a bag and squeeze the air out. It should take about 1/3 cup.
