Welcome to America! Instant oatmeals come in many flavors...as well as plain that you can add the water to... doctor it up with a pat of butter and a spoon of sugar and a little milk.
When you make the oatmeal on the stove, do as directed on the box....... then add butter and sugar and cinnamon, and then there are raisins and nuts!. Apples cooked in the water before adding the oatmeal is good with sugar and cinnamon.
Have you ever eaten an oatmeal cookie? It is the same thing only more of a mush that you can fix up.... Give it a try...
add something to sweeten it....sugar....honey....and always butter....
try adding a little milk and some sugar..instant oatmeal has various flavors find a flavor you like!!
You are correct on both counts
Most people flavor otameal with other foods. I like to use tiny pieces of apples and cinnamon, plus butter. Some people like maple syrup and brown sugar. My husband is iraqi, and he likes his with just butter, sugar, and heavy cream added. I am talking about the kind you cook in a pan, not the instant little paper packages. I don't like it plain either.
No, no, no lol.
Put the packet in a bowl. Add a little bit of water.. just enough to where you can stir the oats around, but not too much where its really watery. Put it in the microwave for a minute (or until most of the water evaporates). Add some milk to where you can stir it around and so its not too mushy. Add sugar for some extra sweetness. Enjoy.
That sounds like instant and if you followed the directions. then you just don't like it.
If you don't like the instant kind - maybe you would like the Quick cooking oatmeal. Add 1/2 cup oatmeal and 1 cup hot water in a large microveable dish and zap it for 1 min 35 seconds. Add milk. I have some very morning. You can add cinnamon , raisins, strawberries etc...
Make the water is at or near boiling. Add a little skim milk, try a little brown sugar to taste. Feeling like you want to enjoy it a bit more? Add Grade B Maple Syrup. Grade A if your that type.
Instant oatmeal, yeah, you just pour boiling water on it and let it sit. You have to look at the cooking instructions on your oatmeal's container. Some are "long-cooking", which requires a much different process. Either way, by itself, Oatmeal doesn't taste great...it's like grits or polenta without seasoning. Most people add some sugar, cinnamon, etc. Dried fruits are also good, like raisins. And yeah, I've heard of Albania.
BTW, it's not wheat, it's OAT meal. Just saying.
i put water and oatmeal in pot according to amount stated on package along with butter, sugar, salt, and sometimes raisins, cinnamon, apple, whatever i feel like. i dont use instant
There is two different kinds of oatmeal - one you have to cook for like 10-20 minutes called rolled oats, and another that is called quick oats.
The quick oats is the one in which you boil the water and add equal amount of oats and hot water into a bowl. You let the oats steep for about 5 minutes. I like to put a small ceramic plate over the bowl to keep the steam in. After 5 minutes, you mix it up and can eat it. It's very plain, bland and almost the consistancy of grade school paste.
For either one, I like to eat it with golden brown sugar and a tiny bit of milk ontop.
I buy the regular box of oatmeal, and for two servings, I mix 3/4 cup of the oatmeal, 1 and 1/2 cup of water, and about 1/4 tsp. of salt in a bowl, cover with saran wrap, cook in the Microwave for 2 and 1/2 minutes. Make sure your bowl is large enough that it does not boil over.
You don't just pour water on it. It's way better if you make it on the stove, and it's even better (although higher in calories) if you make it with milk instead of water. Make sure you use minute oats, not the instant packets. And if you need flavors or toppings, don't get the pre-flavored ones. They taste so fake!!
I love oatmeal, but I know it's not for everyone. You may like it better when you're older...
Cook it properly and use the neat ideas for toppings.
