I use to make a dressing with celery seed, onion, sugar, oil, vinegar and water. All in a blender....
I buy the mix your own dressings, where you add oil and vinegar
I don't like the bottled ones. some of the refrigerated ones are pretty good. It is a little bit of a problem to make your own because you may not have the ingredients.
I usually keep it simple: olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. I do vary the vinegars though, balsamic, rice vinegar, red wine vinegar. And I usually go a little heavier on the oil and salt, but not too much!
I like to take a jam jar that is mostly empty (about a two spoonfuls left). Add oil, honey and dijon mustard (or whatever else you like)
Top off the jar and shake!!!
This works really well with raspberry and apricot jams.
Dill mayonnaise. Just add some dill pickle juice to mayo and stir it. Add a shake or two of grated orange peel for a little zing.
My own concoction:
Honey/Orange Balsamic Vinaigrette
3 parts canola/olive oil blend
1 part balsamic vinegar
1t honey
1 garlic clove (minced)
1T orange juice
Kosher salt & pepper
I use a small ramekin to measure out my oil & vinegar; this recipe makes about a medium-sized squeeze bottle.
Mix honey, garlic, orange juice, vinegar together
Add oil slowly, mix vigorously
Season with S + P
You can make any vinaigrette with your basic 3:1 ratio ... canola/olive oil blends are the best (extra virgin tends to taste bitter) and any type of vinegar, and a touch of dijon mustard to hold the emulsification.
Experiment with seasonings, juices, herbs, etc!
This is an excellent dressing from the middle east.
