I have been icing cookies and cakes and my icing tips and rusting! How do I clean them? I have soaked them!?!
Answers: I have soaked them in water but nothing seems to work and remove it!
Soak them in vinegar (or lemon juice) for about 10 minutes to remove the surface layer of rust and then use a toothbrush and a paste made of salt and vinegar (or lemon juice) to remove the rest. No expensive "oxy" products are needed and it is safe for the environment. Just make sure you wash them and immediately dry them to prevent future rust.
if they are already rusted you can try to get this product or something like this

after it cleans so this does not happen again keep them always covered in oil , my mom is a baker and that is how she keeps hers
heat oil 125 degees and soak tip30 min. when removed an cooled use baking soda and a brillo , or just shoot down and buy a new one
Are you using wilton tips? They sell a little cleaning tool at Michael's to clean them with but I am not sure it will take off rust here is what I do. I have a little basket that is like a cage, it clamps shut and I put all of my tips and adapters in it and wash and dry them in the dishwasher. Before I put them away I make sure they are all dry good. I have found that Wilton products are the best and the won't rust on ya. You may want to invest in a set.
try boiling them in soda water and leave em in the water til cool, then clean with a miracle sponge.
