Can you grill beets?!

Question: I really like beets. I am used to canned which is ok. But, I like to grill or George Forman different types of vegetables. I am watching Alton Brown but missed most of his program about beets. Does anyone have any experience or have any tastey recipes for grilling beets?

marinate for 30 mins...grill wrapped in foil or bake for 30 mins.

1/3 cup wine vinegar
1 teaspoon rosemary
1 clove garlic minced

Beets need to be boiled or baked for some time. I think the grill wouldn't allow time enough for the center of the beet to soften before it burns. And, when you boil it, then it is very simple to pull off the outer "skin".

Canned beets have already been boiled so they are soft. A raw beet is very hard - as hard as a carrot only larger and denser.

Hope that helps.

eI have only ever baked them, rather unsuccessfully. They were cooked on the outside an raw in the middle.

I couldn't find on for Grilled Beets by Alton, but here's the link to him if you wish to further your search.
