Bread machine Challah dough?!
Answers: Does anybody have a good recipe for making the dough for Challah (pref. with butter and honey instead of oil and sugar) in a bread machine? I have friends arriving this afternoon who are Sabbath keepers, and have everything just about ready for them except the bread. Like to do that last.
I have one that uses sugar and oil, but not honey (that would change the moisture).
1 C warm water
4 Tbs. oil
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
4 1/2 C flour
2/3 C sugar
2 1/2 tsp. dried a active yeast
Put in the machine in order stated, poke a hole in the dry ingredients to drop the yeast into.
Set machine for dough cycle.
Braid your loaves whichever way you usually do. Let it rise then brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with seeds.
Bake at 350F .
Braiding is traditional, there is no reason any bread would not work, the important part is that it be ready by sundown.
If I err, some Jewish person please set me straight.
If this is a religious bread then you can"t change the recipe. I'm sure you can't make it in the bread machine .It has to be braided.
