How do YOU organize your recipies?!
Answers: I want to organize my recipies... I have some from family memebers jotted down on loose paper.. some favorite recipies taged in books and some loose magazine clippings.... I started to but them on the computer but this is taking forever. and I find that going back and forth to the computer for the recipe is too cumbersome. So how do you organize your recipies.. or how should I do this for myself.
I bought folders (since most are printed off the internet) and I divided them by: Dinner(subdivided by Chicken, Casseroles, Hamburger, Pork, Beef), Cakes, Cookies(subdivided into Christmas), Candy, Bars, Salads, Appetizers, Soups/Stews, Other and then attached the folders into Big Binders.
Just get a big three ring binder, some subject dividers.
divide into categories using the subject dividers
sort recipes according to categories
put into binder.
I have a book that I copy them into, but I'm not the most organized person, so I also shove papers into it also. I would recomend putting them in a book though. However, if your handwriting is anything like mine, you may want to type them.
In my head.
I don't currently have mine organized, they are all just tossed in a drawer in the kitchen. However, you could get index cards and right them all down on one. Then get an index card folio, the little filing cases small enough for index cards, and organize them in that. You could make little tabs and put them into categories, like pastas, desserts, etc. or you could organize them alphabetically. Good luck!
I think I have the perfect idea. I use an old sewing machine drawer. If I find a recipe in a magazine I like, I try it, if its good I write it off on a card and put it in the drawer. I made file cards from the computer with catagories such as: Bars, Breakfast, cakes, cookies, canning, meat, cassaroles, vegetables, etc. I have a lot of catagories and my drawer fits into a large cupboard I have and I just take it out and look for what I want. The cards sit on the end not the bottom as the drawer is only 3-1/2 inches wide.
Well, I have a lot on the computer- but I didn’t type any of them. I copied and pasted them from the internet. I save them and start each file name with “RECIPE”- that way they’re all lumped together. Then I have separate folders for desserts, chicken, ground beef, side dishes, favorites, etc. The computer is really nice for me- I do go back and type in comments- like how I liked the dish, what I did different, etc. If someone wants a copy of a recipe- I just have to print off a copy. I also have a bunch of recipes in a 3-ring binder. I have those sorted by tabs. When I run across a good recipe in a magazine- I fold a corner of that page down and I write on the front of the mag the name of the recipe. I have an area in my kitchen where I keep the mags. If I’m thinking about a new dish- then I’ll look through the front covers and see if there’s something I might make.
