How do I cook a radish?!
Thanks!
Answers: Radish is a veggie that I have ignored for years, so I think I will buy some today. I was wondering, how does one cook a radish? Does it need to be cooked or can it be eaten raw? If I remember right, it can be eaten raw but it is very crunchy. I think I may try to cut it into slices and then steam it in a pan with some water, do you think this will work, or any other ideas?
Thanks!
take about 2 scup of radish that have been cut in 4 pieces, add 3 knobs of butter and about an 1/8 cup of water and some salt to taste. cover with a lid and cook on medium until soft but not overcooked. the water should be evaporated and the butter should be emulsified and not broken, the butter sauce should form a glaze on the radish. if you can accomplish this, then welcome to french cooking, they cook their veggies like this in all the fancy restaurants.
this veggie is meant to be eaten raw. cooking it will ruin the taste and flavor...
Slice it thin, eat it raw in salad...don't waste your time cooking it.
I haven't heard of anyone cooking a radish, although I suppose it could be done. If you want to try it, I'd suggest very light steaming.
They might be tasty paired with some beets. I am a longtime beet fan, and they tend to be overlooked as well.
I've never cooked them but have eaten them raw:
You can eat it with dip (like crudite trays')
Or slice/Shred into a salad you're making.
These are two ways that I eat them at home. Also to cut some of the spiciness try sprinkling a little salt on top before eating.
Here's a website with plenty of recipes containing radishes

i cannot even imagine what a cooked radish would taste like!! Even if the taste was OK, the crunch would be gone. Doesn't sound appetizing at all..
I slice them up, and put them in salads. I have never tried them cooked.
Some types have a real zing to them.
