Preparing Crockpot ahead of time?!
Answers: I am going to make a crockpot roast tomorrow that has potatoes in it. I was wondering if I can make this tonight (meaning place quartered potatoes, roast and soup in crockpot) put in fridge and then set the alarm for the middle of night, take pre-prepared crock out of fridge and start heating then since it has to cook for 9 hours on low? I am wondering if the potatos will be bad if done that way? I have never tried to cut potatoes so soon before preparing them before and not sure if that will work. Thanks!
I prepare everything the night before in my slow cooker. Brown the meat and season well and add all my vegys including my potatoes. Store in fridge overnight put in slow cooker in morning on low go to work and 8 - 9 hours it will be done for dinner. I use my slow cooker at least 2 times a week.
cook the meat first it only take a few hours to cook the rest id add them later or turn it down real low
Its possible the potatoes may turn a little bownish in color unless they are submersed in liquid. If you arent sure, you could put everything in except the potatoes, then put them in when you get up with the alarm to turn it on.
fix your crock pot , but don't put it in the fridge. just cook it all night on low, and it will be ready in the morning. if you do put it in the fridge, it will get really cold, and take forever to heat up to even begin to cook, which will add HOURS to your time. the timing on crock pots is very forgiving. several hours longer won't make that much difference at such a low temperature
My thought is to start the crock without the potatoes just at bed time. Prepare the potatoes & store completely covered with water in the fridge. As soon as you get up in the morning, drain & add to crock. It should be fine by around noon..
