Why do my waffles stick to my cast iron waffle maker?!
I seasoned my cast iron plates for 2 hours in the over upside down with canola oil on them. I let them cool down. And I tried waffles for the 7'th time. Still! AHH, lol... so frustated.
I put the batter in and it stuck together so good that I went to open the lid, and instead the whole waffle iron lifted off the counter. It was stuck shut again.
When I finally get it open... I have half a waffle on the top and 1/2 a waffle on the bottom, split in half. I just want a waffle...after seven tries, not one yet.
HELP:)
Answers: I am very frustrated. This is my 7'th try to make waffles in the last week and a half. I tried several recipes.. and finally I got a light fluffy one. So I go that down. But still I can't get a good waffle.

It sounds like you need to re-season it. Solid shortening is essential. Using oil just makes it greasy.
Clean the pan, and coat with a thick layer of shortening. Put it in a low heat oven (200 degrees) for 30-45 minutes. Take it out and wipe it out with paper towels. Put it back in the oven for an hour. It it now ready to use.
Never, ever use soap to clean it! This will ruin the seasoning. Simply wipe the griddle down with a paper towel. Reheat the pan and apply just enough grease to wet the surface before storing.
I would use Pam high heat spray. Your canola oil is probably burning away from the heat and when you add the waffle batter theres no oil. Pam with butter is also good too. Good luck =)
You have to make sure you put butter or a non-stick cooking spray on it. Drench it to not make it stick! Hope this helps.
I agree with the first answer. I have the Waring Professional Waffle Iron and my waffles fall right out but I use Pam spray before I pour in the batter.
Are you getting the iron hot enough? Are you overfilling it?
