It's my first time to bake a brownie, and it turned to be a disaster, any suggestions?!
Also, how do i correctly pre-heat my oven...I have a la germania model SL100, it's a table top type with no burners on top, it's gas thermostatic oven...
In the manual it says, that i should put it in max for 4 mins and 45 secs, then set it to the desired temperature...is this correct?
How long should i preheat it?Should i do the procedure that it tells in the manual before i do anything like prepare the ingredients, cause the very first step in the recipes is to preheat the oven?
Actually, i followed the instruction in the manual, i set it at max for 4 min and 45 secs then set it to 350F, and the whole house smelled like burnt rubber....i turned it off...then i just followed the instructions again and allowed maybe 5 mins. before i put in my brownie..
I really need help..please answer all my questions..thanks in advance!
Answers: The sides and the bottom are so hard. The paper lining is brown and the brownie tastes bitter...

almost all baked goods recipes say to "preheat" the oven on the first line. I simply turn mine on to the temperature recommended in the recipe. Then I get out the ingredients for the item I am baking.
If your brownies were bitter tasting, did you forget the sugar?
Always set the timer. Some foods continue cooking after the time it says to take them out and set on rack to cool. Brownies being one of them.
The cocoa will turn the parchment on the bottom brown. Peel the parchment off.
I spread the batter to where it is much thinner on the edges than in the middle so the edges can puff.
You burned your brownies. The trick for baking perfect brownies is not to overcook them. Brownies really don't take long to bake and it is best to stay in the kitchen while they are baking. Your oven should be fine but next time take the brownies out of the oven as soon as they have formed a crust on the top, they should still be soft and moist in the center, put the pan on a cake rack and allow it to cool completely before you touch the brownies. You may ruin another batch or two before you learn to make perfect brownies but it is worth it.
Preheat the oven in advance. Preheating just guarantees that the brownies will enter the oven at the correct temperature. If you don't preheat then the brownies will not bake properly and will take longer to cook. I usually preheat my oven about 15 minutes in advance of baking to guarantee that the oven will be at temperature.
Once the brownies are in the oven, keep an eye on them. Start checking a few minutes early.
I have never heard of your oven but if there are no burners on top you won't be able to bake anything. Baked goods have to cook top and bottom, not just bottom.
