the secret is thickening soup is a basic mixture of:

1- corn starch
2-a little bit of water

SLOWLY WHISK THE CORN STARCH MIXTURE INTO YOUR SOUP,

LET YOUR SOUP COME TO BOIL AGAIN ...

I think you put flour in it.

Whisk either cornstarch or some flour (only about 1-2 TB) into some of the hot liquid in a little bowl. Then, gradually add it into the soup and mix it up. Let it simmer, uncovered, for awhile.....

Mix corn starch with water and pour some in.

you can use mashed potato flakes or corn starch. if you add cheese it will thicken up too.

Make a "slurry" of corn starch and water...add to pot, bring to boil. Or make a "roo"...1T. butter 1T flour 1c milk. Cook butter and flour a minute or two, add milk, bring to boil.
Or, mash some of the potatoes a little to thicken it.
You could even add a bit of instant potato flakes to thicken.

Add some milk(to make it more creamy) cornstarch to make it thick add both to make it cramy and thick

If your potato soup is a chunky soup (not pureed), then mash some of the potato pieces against the side of a pan with a fork or potato masher. The potatoes themselves are a great thickener.

1. you can use corn starch. Whisk one TBSP cornstarch in 3oz cold water. This is called a slurry
whisk mixture into soup slowly, and bring to a boil, should thicken.

If you have some instant potato mix whisk in slowly and bring to boil.

Get a pan and heat up a glass of milk... while stirring it consistently... slowly add a little flour to it. Keep stirring it until it thickens, slowly adding a little more flour until you get the right consistency. Then take it off the heat and skim away the lumps. You don't want to dump clumps of wet flour in your soup.

You can also add more potatoes. They will start to fall apart and thicken the soup. Also, soup often thickens when it sits for a while... You can even add some pasta to it...

Mix about 2 tbsp. flour with a little cold water until dissolved. Add it slowly to the hot soup, stirring all the while. It will thicken up.

All the other comments are great. But there is one I didn't see. You could blend a cup or two of your soup as it is right now into a puree, and add it back to the soup. It works beautifully, and it's really easy.

Do not use flour it will make your soup lumpy. Take some cold water and add a little bit of corn starch to it. Then slowly add the mixture to the soup.

If you have corn starch you can mix it with a small amount of water in a jar, shake it to mix and slowly stir it into the soup. If you have a flour product called Wondra, you can just add it straight to the soup. If you have neither of those, take out some of the potatoes and run them through a blender and add back to the soup.

To thicken any creamed soups, you can use a blender and fill it half way with cold water, and pour flour into the water, blend it up till its smooth,and thick ( the thicker the better). Always turn off the heat on the pan you are going too thicken as this will not cause lumps in your soup.
Just pour in the flour mixture too your desired consistency..

use some instant mashed potato flakes and some milk !
it'll keep the tater-taste !!
