You don't have to use fondant to frost a CCC. You arrange the cupcakes and frost them as you would a regular cake. It works - it doesn't seem like it does but it does.
You should also use the exact same amount of batter when filling your cupcake holders with batter. Use an ice cream scoop. This way all your cupcakes will be the same level :-)

Good Luck - have fun!

I am not an expert; but it looks like they put the cupcakes in the shape of what they wanted and used fondant for the top and decorated it. Just a guess. I like to experiment to when I can.

I think it is very amazing and it looks like it would be easy to make. I have also seen a cake that was made with the cupcakes stacked.

I LUV IT!!!!
make lyke smaller ones with all the characters

Just put 24 cupcakes in a circle and frost over the whole batch.

Looks really cool. Maybe all the cupcakes were positioned close together, a fondant with all the decoration already done was placed on top. I don't know how the cupcakes would be pulled apart without cutting thru the fondant though.

i'd say it was fondant too..that's the only way you're going to get a smooth top without the frosting falling through the cracks b/w the cupcakes..
bare in mind kids hate fondant. it's gross...pretty much only for decoration...
also, you'll have to cut through it..so it looks nice, but it's going to be a mess to cut...

I don't think you need to use fondant if you use a light and fluffy enough frosting.

It looks really neat on top. If I were to make this I would fill the cup cakes with pudding or frosting with a thin layer of frosting on the top. Then lay a topping of fondant on the top and decorate that.

wow i love it i wanna try it too.....
