HELP with this recipy... Please... ???!

Question: im a freshmen college student... this coming semester im not planning to renew my meal plan b/c the cafeteria food is that bad...

on marth steward's website i looked up a website that has a nice recipy thats suppose to take under 30 min...

http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site...

im having one problem with it... the "1 1/2 pounds chicken cutlets (about 8)" i could not find at the supermarket... so i bought a pack of 10 chicken breasts... and they were 5 pounds (half pound each)...

so i only cooked 3 chicken breasts and it took around 30 min to broil way over "5 to 7 minutes" indicated by the recipy...

plz explain what i did wrong? is there a difference between cutlets and breasts? if so what? would 8 cutlets really be able to cook in 5 to 7 minutes?

I cannot get your link to pull up so I'm going to take a stab in the dark. (This page cannot be accessed at this time.

I'm guessing you didn't cut the chicken breasts. She is cooking 8 pieces of chicken weighing a total of 1.5 lbs. You are cooking 3 at 1.5 lbs. The much lower surface area to mass ratio will make it take forever.

On a bias, cut each breast into 3 equal strips. (If your good at math, look at the breast as close to a parallelogram. Cut it on the side to the opposite side twice to make three similar and equal parallelograms.) This will reduce cooking time significantly. Your bird will also be a lot less dry on the outside next time.

Cutlets are chicken breasts that have been thinly sliced -sometimes 3 or 4 times (the same breast)- they cook very fast because they are so thin. You can get the same results with a regular chicken breast, just use a long SHARP knife and slice the long way

You didn't do anything wrong. It would have been eaiser if you'd had cutt the chicken breasts in slices. Thats basically what chicken cutlets are.

Yes, I use cutlets for all my quick chicken dishes. They are fairly thin so they cook quickly. Make sure you have your chicken as close to the heat source as possible.

You may be thinking of boneless chicken which If you pound it and get it very thin can cook in a short period of time.

Chicken cutlets are really thin. Maybe try to cut the chicken breast in thirds (width wise) and then if you have a meat hammer then hammer it even thinner. A thin chicken cutlet could easily cook in 5-7 minutes on broil.

Yeah cutlets are like filets, thin. So when you went to the market and bought the breats and if they were bonless, you would have to cut them thin. as thin as a fish filet. and yes they cook quickly because they are boneless and skinless and thin.

cutlets are much smaller than breasts. If you want to use the breast just cut them in half or quarter them depending on the size of your chicken breast.
