Really good french toast recipes?!
preheat your oven to 500 degrees
you'll need a cookie sheet
5 slices of white bread (i prefer buttermilk with honey or egg bread)
3 eggs
a splash of milk
a sprinkle of sugar
a dash of cinnamon
a dash of nutmeg (go really easy on it or it'll over power it)
mix everything but the bread together in a bowl
2 1/2 cups corn flakes
in another bowl lightly crush up the corn flakes
dip the bread one slice at a time in the egg batter and then dip it directly in the crushed up corn flakes. coating each side.
do this with all 5 slices.
(you may want to go slightly quick so the cornflakes don't get soggy.)
place a 1/2 inch apart on the cookie sheet.
bake for 5 to 8 minutes. flip the slices and bake for another 5 to 8 minutes.
and there you go! it's really good and doesn't require a whole bunch of butter and oil to cook!

Crunchy Vanilla-Almond French Toast with Fancy Fruit Topping, Sweet-n-Smoky Bacon
Bacon:
1 pounds applewood smoked bacon
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
Toast:
8 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 pinches salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, ground or freshly grated
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 cups corn flakes, lightly crushed
1/2 cup sliced almonds, lightly crushed
4 tablespoons butter
12 (1 1/2-inch-thick) slices challah bread or soft "Italian" style bread
Medium or dark amber maple syrup to pass at table
Mint sprigs and edible flowers, suggested plate garnish
Fancy Fruit Topping:
1 large navel orange, peeled and chopped
12 large strawberries, sliced
1/2 pint blueberries
1/2 pint raspberries
1/2 pint blackberries
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup orange liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Arrange bacon on slotted broiler pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and place in oven to bake until crisp, 20 to 22 minutes.
Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
In a shallow dish, beat together with a wire whisk: eggs, half-and-half, vanilla, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon. In a second shallow dish combine flakes and nuts. Add 2 tablespoons butter to warm skillet. Place a cookie sheet lined with foil (for easy clean-up) near the stove. Coat 4 to 6 slices of bread in egg, depending on the size of your skillet, then coat bread in cornflakes and nuts. Cook slices 2 minutes on each side and transfer toast to cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining slices and transfer toast to oven. Bake 10 minutes, with already cooking bacon.
While bacon and toast are in oven, combine fruit, sugar and liqueur in a serving bowl and reserve.
Remove toast and bacon from oven. Warm syrup in a small pitcher in microwave 15 seconds on high. Serve toast and bacon on plates with optional garnish of mint and edible flowers.
Pass syrup and topping at the table.
Apple-Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast Ingredients:
20 slices freshly baked bread
8 eggs
2 cups half and half
2 cups milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Filling:
16 ounces cream cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. cinnamon
21 ounce can apple pie filling
Mix the first four Filling ingredients together until well combined. Fold in the apple pie filling.
Spread cream cheese mixture over 10 slices of the bread and top with the other 10 slices, forming a sandwich.
Place bread sandwiches in a large baking pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
Combine the eggs, half and half, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Beat until well mixed.
Slowly pour the egg mixture over the top of the sandwiches until all the bread is soaked.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Bake at 350 degrees covered for approximately 40 minutes.
Then uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
Let stand 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Sprinkle with confectioners sugar and toasted almonds. Serve with warm maple syrup. (We use Ohio Maple since it's the best!)
It's all in the bread. Buy a baguette (long thin French or Italian loaf) the day before you intend to use it.
Slice bread in 3/4 inch thick pieces
Mix 4 eggs with 1 1/2 cups milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
preheat griddle
Dip Bread in egg mixture for about 5-10 seconds per side and let excess drip off.
put small amount of vegetable oil on griddle (not olive oil)
Cook french toast for about 3 minutes per side (or until browned well).
Serve with butter and maple syrup.
I start with a good sourdough bread and cut diagonal slices about an inch thick.
In a bowl combine 1 egg per each slice of bread,
for every 4 eggs use about 1/4 cup cream and a teaspoon of vanilla. Mix them well and pour into a large shallow pan.
Soak the bread slices in the batter for about 5 minutes, turn and soak another 5 minutes. The bread should be getting gooey.
Warm a griddle to about 325 degrees and melt a pat of butter on it. Spread the butter around and cook the bread until golden brown on both sides.
You can serve it with a wide range of sugars, jams and syrups.
a suggestion for the french toast recipe you decide to go with.. many are delish... but i have found that instead of putting the cinnamon into the batter mixture I dust it onto the bread of choice on both sides and then dip the bread slices into the batter of choice.

Here's a SIMPLE French toast recipe:
For Two People
Six Pieces of a good bread (your choice...I prefer Pepperidge Farms Buttermilk White)
Four eggs
1/4 cup milk or cream (your preference)
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teas. white sugar
1 teas. vanilla
1 teas. cinnamon.
Beat all ingredients well, soak bread for as long or as short as you prefer, and brown well, preferably use butter. YUM YUM. Delicious and wonderfully easy! You can top with fruit, syrup, honey, or whatever you prefer.
This isn't a fancy recipe... It's just the way my grandmother and mother and I make it.
Two eggs, a good splash of milk, and a bit of salt- whisk it together in a fairly large bowl.
Take slices of white bread (you can cut them into strips if you want. I think it's easier to leave them whole.) and dip them in the mixture, completely covering them, then throw them in the frying pan with a good bit of oil that's hot enough to sizzle a drop of water.
Sprinkle some sugar on them while they're frying and don't move them for a minute. Flip them, put some sugar on the other side, and cook until they're how you like it. You'll probably have to flip them a couple times.
And that's about the most basic, tasty recipe for French toast I know.

This is a recipe I've used for about 15 years. It is an oven baked french toast recipe, is easy to prepare and cook.
You prepare everything the night before and then pop it into the oven in the morning, go have a shower, get dressed and 30 minutes later you sit down and enjoy.
1 loaf of stale French Bread, 3/4" slices
1 stick of unsalted butter
8 eggs
5 cups of milk
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1 cup raisins
1 cup brown sugar
Butter the sides and bottom of a 13"x9" glass pan. Melt the remaining butter and set aside. Mix the eggs, milk and vanilla together until smooth and creamy. Cover bottom of pan with one layer of bread. Brush the top of the bread generously with some of the melted butter. Sprinkle first the brown sugar, then the raisins and then the cinnamon over the bread. Repeat the process starting with the bread to create two layers, ending with the cinnamon on top. Pour the egg/milk mixture slowly over the bread. Make sure it is evenly distributed all the way to the bottom of the pan. Dot the top with some extra cold butter. Cover with plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator over night. The mixture will soak into the bread overnight. In the morning preheat oven to 350 degrees, remove plastic wrap and bake for 30 minutes or until the mixture is set and golden brown. Do not cover the pan. Let sit for 5 minutes, cut and enjoy. Serve with powdered sugar or syrup.
