Chocohotopots Recipe courtesy Nigella Lawson

Ingredients:
1 stick plus 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
4 ounces semisweet chocolate, with 60 percent cocoa solids
2 eggs
3/4 cup superfine sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Special equipment: 4 (2/3 to 1-cup capacity) ramekins

Directions:
Place a baking sheet in the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F.

Butter the ramekins with 1 tablespoon butter.

Either in a microwave or in a bowl suspended over a pan over simmering water, melt the dark chocolate and 1 stick butter, then set aside to cool a little.

In another bowl, mix the eggs with the sugar and flour with a hand whisk and beat in the cooled butter and chocolate mixture. Divide the mixture between the 4 buttered ramekins.

Bake for about 20 minutes, by which time the tops will be cooked and cracked and the chocolate gooey underneath.

Place each ramekin on a small plate with a teaspoon and serve. Make sure to warn people that these desserts will be HOT!

  • Bu a box of Pillsbury and follow the directions on the back of the box. It's simple and delicious.

buy one of the pillsbury cake mix boxes. has all the instructions and you're good to go. (mostly for those, you just add eggs, water, and vegetable oil) (NOT olive oil)

A cake mix is the easiest--you'll need eggs and oil, plus water. Otherwise, find a cookbook and look up a cake recipe. You'll need sugar, vanilla, eggs, oil, certain spices, flour, baking soda and/or baking powder, salt. Try a carrot cake recipe. You'll need butter, cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar for frosting.

Find a good recipe, and follow it step by step. Read the the recipe once or twice first, have your ingredients ready. If making from a box, still read over the instructions first. Here's some tips I found:
    http://southernfood.about.com/od/cakerec...
    http://www.wilton.com/cake/cakeprep/baki...
    http://www.cookingvillage.com/cv/kw/tipt...

Yes i have to agree... try the box mixes first.

buy one from the store or do what the other people said

    BASIC CAKE MIX

    8 c. (2 lbs.) cake flour
    6 c. sugar
    1/4 c. baking powder
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    2 1/2 c. vegetable shortening

In a large bowl, sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Mix well. With a pastry blender, cut in shortening until evenly distributed. Put in a large airtight container. Label. Store in a cool, dry place. Use within 10-12 weeks. Makes about 16 cups of Basic Cake Mix.

Do not feel bad. Most do not know how to make a cake now. They buy a box and stir up what is in it and say they made a cake. They are not bad but then not that good either.

duncan hines boxed cake mix and there frosting is the best way to go, when you become comfortable making those cakes you should move of to scratch baking. good luck!!!!

just use Pillsbury or Sara lee and follow directions

Log onto eons.com and go the "Down Home Cooking" group.
There are tons of recipes there with step by step instructions. Some from scratch, and others made with cake mixes. You can also ask any questions you have, and several people there will be happy to answer whatever you need to know.
    See you there!

    PERFECT CHOCOLATE CAKE

    4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
    1/2 c. milk
    1 c. brown sugar, packed
    1/4 tsp. Jamaican allspice
    1 egg yolk
    2 c. cake flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. superfine sugar
    2 egg yolks
    3 T. water
    1/2 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 Tbsp. dark rum
    2 egg whites, whipped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 2 - 9 inch layer cake pans.
Whisk together chocolate, milk, allspice, brown sugar and one egg yolk in the top of a double boiler, stirring until a custard is formed and mixture thickens. Cool. Stir in baking soda and salt. Sift the flour onto waxed paper.

In bowl of electric mixer, whip the butter, gradually adding sugar and two egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a cup, stir together 3 T. water, 1/2 c. milk, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract and 1 Tbsp. dark rum.

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture alternating with the vanilla/milk/water mixture. Stir in the chocolate custard mixture and beat until smooth, approximately two to three minutes at medium speed of mixer.

In a clean bowl, using the wire whisk attachment of your electric mixer, beat two egg whites until soft peaks form; gently fold into cake batter.

Turn into greased layer cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 25 minutes or until cake tester or toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Turn out onto wire racks to cool. Level with a serrated knife if required, then stack and frost with chocolate frosting.

Note: This recipe calls for superfine sugar, not to be confused with confectioners or 10X sugar. If you don't have superfine sugar you can pulse regular granulated sugar in the food processor to substitute. Domino supplies superfine sugar in 1 pound packages at the supermarket or in larger quantities at the bakery supply or foodservice outlet. Superfine sugar dissolves readily and works best for cakes, helping to produce a lighter texture.
