Is this pot (as in the cooking thing) safe to use after I did this...?!
Answers: I was boiling up some water for noodles in an old small stainless steel pot with a copper bottom, then I forgot about it, came back 3 hours later when I smelled metal burning, now the inside of the pot is black and the dark stains on the bottom have chipped off and its actually clean coppery looking, I havent checked to see if the black on the inside will clean up, but is this okay to use again? I don't want to throw it out...
to remove the black "stuff" put some baking soda in it followed by some vinegar and let it set a few hours......then scrub it with something abrasive.....repeat until the black spots are gone...
If you can clean the inside, you can use it.
I've cleaned the inside of stainless steel pans by taking them outdoors and spraying them with Easy Off oven cleaner. I let it sit for awhile and then rinse it out.
It sounds like the copper has been exposed. Your better off not using it. It could be toxic.
After washing with hot water and a good abrasive cleaner, you should be able to use the pot with out any problems.
Let it soak for a while and try scouring it with an SOS pad or something like that.
