Question: Or is it only those which advertise that specifically. If I can use any major brand uncooked before layering, what do I need to know about oven baking?

No you don't need to pre-cook lasagna noodles if you are baking them in a Lasagna. I haven't pre-cooked them in over 20 years

I use regular lasagna noodles...not the no-boil kind. Just layer the dry noodles in your casserole with whatever ingredients you want in your lasagna.

Here's the trick. You'll need to use about 6 cups of sauce and cover the casserole with aluminum foil. Uncover the dish during the last 15 minutes of cooking time. Let it rest about 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

I bake lasagna in a ceramic or glass dish. I bake it at 400 for 30 minutes and turn the oven down to 350 until done. Total cooking time averages 1hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.

There are some that don't have to be precooked but they aren't all like that. Read your label to be sure.

yes, however it is a good idea to cook them atleast half way.. that is what i do. Also i guess it depends on your sauce. If yoy have watery sauce then it would cook it, or visa versa.

I never cook my noodles before using them. I just use them in layers and then bake as usual (50-60 mins at around 400 deg F).

FYI: lasagna also freezes really well. I often dont cook it at all before I freeze it - then bake it as usual.

yeah, often if you just cook everything else and layer as usual then cover your lasagna, the heat from all the other ingredients will cook the pasta.

for the most part yes, just when you are buying the pasta read if it should or not, and it needs alot of moisture(sauce)

what every u do dont pre cook it because after u bake the lasgna it turns out all sowgy and taste nasty

most need to be cooked first, the package will say if it is a type which need not be cooked first. There is a recipe on the back of most packages. I have used both and prefer the cook first type, I under cook them a bit so they dont turn to mush during the baking process, and are easier to handle during the layering...mmmmmmmm food of the gods. like pizza and chocolate!

Umm, I have never taken the risk but I think pre-cooked are just that, pre-cooked. Don't take the risk. Boiling your noodles takes little effort or just buy the pre-cooked ones and whatever you do, do not cook meat into your sauce. layer of meat seperate. It ruins the true flavour or the sauce if you put ground chuck into it.

My opinion, if you don't cook your noodles, they are going to be rubbery or dry. Alway's cook your noodles is my answer.

I tried it once - I used regular noodles and tried to bake them and it was horrible. Just....ugh. Don't do it, please?

Buy the ones that advertise 'oven ready' and go with them instead. Just make sure you layer on the sauce on the bottom of the pan, then on top of each layer of noodles. Some underneath is good too. While they are thinner than regular noodles, they need sufficient moisture in the pan while cooking in order to soften up properly.

When you think they should be done, check them. You might need a little more time just to have them perfect.

I use these all the time now. After the burger is prepped I can have the lasagna ready and in the oven in about 10 minutes. They are a big time-saver.

I actually read an article about that in a cooking magazine recently. It said that you *could* do, it, but their taste test found that the brands that weren't intended to be used uncooked ended up tasting gummy and gross.

Not True. However there are brands that do not need cooking. They are called oven ready,San Georgio makes them.
