Old fashioned donut recipe???!

Question: My grandmother had a resturant and made the best donuts. I was wondering if anyone out there had a good recipe? The one that used real Mc Cormicks Nutmeg? If my grandma was still living she would be well over 100 and it was over 60 years ago that I helped her in her cafe. I would like to try my hand at making those donuts thought. I know you have to cook them in like Crisco, not the oils they sell now. Can anyone help me??

thickness of 1/2". Cut using a floured doughnut cutter. Fry until golden
brown (about 1 minute per side). Drain. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

I don't know of an exact recipe, but you can buy Crisco sticks, melt them in a deep pot and use the Pillsbury biscuits. Just roll the biscuits in a ball and fry them in the oil. Take them out and roll them in a sugar/cinnamon mixture, add the nutmeg to the sugar mixture for your grandmother's special touch! Hope this works for you!

Funny you should ask...
I love donuts , especially the old style ones.
Closest thing to them now is at the cider mills.
I did run across this website:
http://www.homemade-dessert-recipes.com/...
But... I have not tried them.

I hope this helps. Considering your aget etc. I figured that you must be looking for an old fashioned cake type doughnut.
That's all I could think of that has nutmeg in the batter Anyway, recipe below is an old standard.

Buttermilk Doughnuts:
2 cups buttermilk
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup granulated sugar
5 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup butter or shortening, melted
Oil for frying
.
Glaze:
3 cups powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon butter, softened (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Milk or water
PREPARATION:
For the Doughnuts:
Combine the buttermilk, eggs, and sugar. Set aside.

Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg,

Add the buttermilk mixture to the dry ingredients and stir. Stir in the melted butter or shortening and knead until a soft dough forms. Don't over handle the dough.

Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface to approximately 1/4-inch thickness (roll thin for best results). Cut with a 2-1/2-inch or larger doughnut cutter. In a deep-fat fryer or electric skillet, heat oil to 375 degrees F. Fry the doughnuts on each side for approximately 1 min. or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Dip in a powdered sugar glaze while hot and decorate with nuts or candy sprinkles if desired.

For the Glaze:
Combine the powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Mix well and add just enough mild or water until glaze is the consistency you desire. (A thinner consistency will produce a thin glaze on the doughnuts or a thicker consistency will be more like a frosting.)

Yield: about 3 dozen

You can use Crisco to fry the doughnuts if you must, but remember 60 years ago cooking oils weren't as common as they are today. I personally would use the oil.
