Whats a simple way to "jazz" up white rice?!

Question: Hey,

Just wondering if someone could provide me with some ideas or ways I could make plain white rice more then just...plain white rice. Something simple, easy, and great tasting. FYI, I prefer doing rice in a cooker so something rice-cooker friendly.

I use chicken broth instead of water.

Take a little bit of onion, garlic and tarragon and saute in a pan till soft. Then add to the rice before cooking. If you don't like tarragon you can use any kind of spice. Or you could make sticky rice and add a little bit of parmessan cheese once the rice has cooked.

I use a rice cooker as well and have found that if I stir with a fork about half way cooked will help keep the rice fluffed.

try adding som either chicken broth or beef broth instead of water & then add some veggies when cooking

i use hot sauce and a little butter in my rice.. it gives it a tangy flavor and it is very good. To fluff rice you use a fork to work from the bottom of your pan to the top. ....good luck...

try adding an oxo cube for a bit of flavour - chicken, beef or ham

1 tbs of curry and one chicken bullion cube per cup of water. You will have to stir this once during cooking to incorporated all the flavors. To fluff rice: toss lightly with a fork after it is cooked. If you toss rice while it is cooking you will have sticky rice, which I like.

curry and veggies! mmm...

GREAT!! I put chicken broth, no water, add peas, or some frozen veggie... Season with teaspoon of Olive Oil, dash of cinnammon, when 5minutues before done, shrimp. Done total 25 minutes.. Serve with crusty bread, chz, wine.....

add chocolate yam yam yam

I'd chop up cooked chicken, a few veggies, and mix with rice and some terriaki sauce. Sautee in a pan till it's nice and crisp. I had this for lunch a few days ago :)

Mix cooked rice with a bit of melted butter and curry powder. Sautee over medium heat until well mixed and rice is yellow.

You can also make chicken and rice, using cooked chicken pieces and cream of chicken soup. Very tasty!

Try serving a gumbo or similar soup over rice. Makes a great meal!

to fluff rice, stir with a fork!! super simple!

In the cooking water I add dried chives and parsley, makes it super interesting as well as adding some much needed flavor!

replace 1 cup of water with 1 cup salsa and about 1/4 cup water. makes very good spanish rice

put in mixed vegietables and spices!

I'm a big fan of too much butter and salt.

Boring, but oh-so-yummy!

My uncle puts grape jelly in his rice. I've never tried it, but he swears by it!

Add chicken broth instead of water. Put peas, red peppers (chopped), carrots (cubed) and rice into the pot of broth. This will make a nice and simple rice pilaf.

The first thing you can do is to use chicken stock instead of water when cooking the rice. You can also add spices (garlic or whatever appeals to you) to the liquid you cook the rice in. use a little bit of something like a salad dressing to moisten and season the cooked rice - like ranch dressing, or again, whatever appeals to you. There are many answers, but this is a basic beginning to cooking and enjoying white rice. Enjoy!

Simmer the rice, covered, for about 45-55 minutes, in organic chicken broth, cayenne pepper, garlic salt, butter, and Worcestershire sauce...

i like adding a ridiculous number of garlic cloves halfway through, they get soft and go down easy...

I have never done rice in a rice cooker, because I prefer to throw off the starch, so what I usually do is, I cook rice, and '''wash'' the rice, that is, when the rice is cooked, i wash it twice or thrice under water so that the starch is all gone, and then i clip my bowl and drain the water, that way, i get the rice as good as ''biriyani'' without starch and without the rice sticking to each other. So, while i cook rice, i vary according to my choice..that is -

- First, make sure you buy ''basmati'' rice..its the best in the rice variety..atleast in the indian food..if thats what ur looking for..

- I add maggi ''rice flavour cubes'' to the rice while it cooks so that the flavour catches on it and then drain off as i said above

-If iam making meat (chicken or mutton) i boil the meat along with all ''whole spices'' and make a stock and then cook my rice in that water / stock.. and also , i add the rice into the stock while its raw so that it catches the flavour

-I simply boil the rice with whole spices (cinnamon, bayleaves, cardamom, clove, etc...a bit of everything) while its boiling...

I wouldnt know the timings, or procedures of a rice cooker although i have one, never bothered, thanks for reminding me i have one..hehe..perhaps i shud clean it and use it sometimes..but trust me doing it the traditional way is the best....

good luck with ur rice, i have some other alterations, if u are really interested in cooking and food....and rice being and indians favourite dish...i cud give you some insight...

After the rice is cooked add some butter and cheddar cheese and then close the rice cooker to let it melt. After a few minutes just stir it together. I like to add cooked peas or broccoli too. It is very yummy!!!

i love adding black beans or kidney beans to rice. or try sauteed onions and garlic

I love Mexican style stuff. Try adding diced chicken breasts, salsa, and/or retell tomatoes to the rice.

the easiest quickest thing is to use broth of some kind instead of water. i like veggie and chicken broth the the best. you could also experiment with adding herbs/spices to it. even citrus juice/zest, etc.

you could also saute onions in a bit of oil prior to adding the rice and liquid. kind of a rice pilaf if you will.

fluffing is just taking a fork and kind of well breaking it up.

i used to be a die hard rice cooker person as well. until I realized that i made better more consistent rice in a normal sauce pan. so if you are a rice cooker type person, the sauting of onions won't totally work for you.....you'd have to do that separate.

Lightly brown 1/2 cup of extra fine egg noodles in 2 tablespoons butter, add 1 cup rice saute for 1 minute.Add 2 cups water,2 chicken bouliants ,salt to taste. Bring to boil, cover and simmer until waster is absorbed.
