How come the ratio to hot dogs and hot dog buns are diffrent there's never enough hot dogs for buns??????!
The bakers have a different issue: pans. They use trays in various formations. The reason that a dozen is such a traditional baker's number is that it can be set up in configurations of 3X4 or 4X3 (or 2X6, or 6X2, but that's not common). When it comes to pans and ovens, maximum efficiency is key. Ten buns means it must be 2 rows of 5, which simply doesn't always work. The 3X4 rectangle is more convenient.

Answers: The real reason is that each manufacturer has its own interests. They aren't the same entity. Hot dog manufacturers prefer to have packages weigh exactly a pound. It's easier to measure, sell, store, etc. Thus there are packages with 6 or even 4 larger, but the weight should add up to a pound, regardless. It happens to be that the most manageable size of hot dogs are an eighth of a pound, or 2 ounces.

Depends on what size package of each you buy.
its an unsolved mystery...
You've got it backwards, buns are 8ct, hot dogs 10 ct.
Bakeries know you will buy 16.Won't you.
Why the hell is this top priority?
It's a stupid gimmick manufacturers and packagers use to get you to buy more products... lol
don't you love it?
thats why I always buy the dogs they make at the butchers...then i can get 10 dogs to match the 10 pk of buns!
Nathans will solve this problem for you. ;)
Yes ... isn't that weird? And it's not like the hot dog buns are so great, that you'd want to use any extras for sandwiches later either:) ... I usually get "gourmet" sausages, and then buy bakery rolls, that you can get exactly how many you need.......
As a single old fort I seldom buy them...
But have checked several times.. just for this insane question..
sorry..!! IT is 8 & 8 unless you buy sausage franks in 4 or 6's
because I don.t find "hot dogs" any more proper name FRANKS.. except for special items like cheesedogs..corn dogs
