I just finished baking a loaf of whole wheat bread from scratch...?!
Answers: it smells really good, how long must I wait to cut into it and have a little... ok, HUGE piece? I will save a piece for the best answererrererr :D
If you've waited an hour, you've tortured yourself long enough!!
Grab the butter, a knife and get it while it is still warm!
Personally, the first loaf of bread never lasts long enough to get cool in my house. The whole thing gets eaten slathered in butter while still hot enough to melt the butter.
Doc
i would wait 'til it's cool to the touch, otherwise you may smash your beautiful loaf!! Homemade bread is the BEST! Enjoy! :)
I like to have a slice as soon as I get it out of the pan....load it up with some butter, maybe some homemade apple butter....YUMMMMMO!
If you have a good serrated bread knife...I say go for it....
Even though you've taken it out of the oven, it still needs time to stop baking from the center as it is still very hot. It needs a bit of time to 'breathe' and rest especially with softer type breads or it migh fall and sort of squish.
Wait until its no longer hot. I prefer it warm. and then use a bread knife. If you dont own one , get one its worth the expense.
if you have and electric knife slice it immediately. If no electric use a bread knife, that is a very serrated knife and slice it n ow.
I am sure your entire loaf of bread has been eaten by now... :(
Wait at least 1 hour. I bake sourdough breads every other day and most of them are whole wheat bread. When baking sourdough breads the loaf must cool completely for the sour taste to intensify and get sour. If it is served before cooling completely (1 hour to 2 1/2 hours) depending on the size and shape of the loaf. If you let a one pound loaf cool for 1 hour on the counter top, you should be ok even with the center just a touch warm.
