What would happen if you ate something with a cup of vanilla extract in it?!

Question: My sister tried to make a vanilla smoothie, she is six, and we had no idea she was doing this. She came in my bed room and was drinking something and I asked what it was. She said it was a vanilla smoothie that she made. I asked her what she put in it. She told me a few scoops of vanilla ice cream, some milk, and a cup of vanilla "extra". I was curious about the vanilla "extra" so I asked if I could see the bottle. She showed me it and it was vanilla extract. I heard that drinking alot of vanilla extract would give you a horrible stomach ache. Is that true?

Kudos to your 6 year old sister and her kitchen skills.....
Vanilla extract wont kill you.Depending on how much you drank...it might upset your tummy...but nothing to worry about.I would suggest you give your little sister a few tips on making smoothies though.

Depends on if it is pure or fake. Not sure it would matter though with all the other stuff in it, it would be really vanilla flavored if you like that strong of it. Sure would be expensive though. Since most jars you get aren't very big at the store. A whole cup would be like 15 bucks. Bet your parents were mad!!!

Well, what is the carrier compound for the vanilla extract?

If it is glycerol, she will be fine.

If it is ethanol, she is going to have a really bad hangover and is 15 years below the legal age (lol). Alcohol based extracts are as strong as brandy or some whiskies.

Where did she find a cupful of extract anyway? Most of those bottles are so tiny.

Hmm, are you sure she actually used a whole cup full of vanilla extract? Usually it comes in really small bottles so unless you have like a HUGE bottle of it then it's pretty unlikely that she used so much. Plus it doesn't taste very nice if you use too much, so your sister probably wouldn't have drunk it.
But I don't know..if she DID drink a whole cup full then I'm guessing it's going to cause some trouble. I mean, most recipes use only a teaspoon..a whole cup has got to be bad =/
