Is Naan Bread good?!

Question: What can it be compared to?

Answers: What can it be compared to?

Advantages: Tastes and smells divine, can add customise!

Disadvantages: You'll get fat if you eat too much

I love homemade bread as it tastes and smells so much better than shop bought bread. I have been making much more bread since owning a bread machine but this recipe will work with or without a machine.

Naan Bread basic mixture:

150ml hand hot milk
1/2 teaspn sugar
2 teaspn dried yeast
450g plain or strong white flour
1 teaspn salt
1 teaspn baking powder
2 tablespn veg oil
150ml natural yoghurt
1 large egg

By Hand:
put milk in a bowl, add sugar and yeast, stir, then leave to froth for 15 mins
Add all other ingredients and knead for 10 mins
Rest for 20 mins
Divide into 6 balls.
Make tear shaped naan, about 25 cm by 13 cm.
Not too thin or they will be too crisp
Place on greased baking sheet.
bake in hot oven for 10-15 mins until golden brown and puffed up

By machine:
Place all ingredients in machine and run dough cycle.
Rest for 20 mins
Divide into 6 balls.
Make tear shaped naan, about 25 cm by 13 cm.
Place on greased baking sheet.
Bake in hot oven for 10-15 mins until golden brown and puffed up

That is the basic dough which is great on it's own. However you can add other ingredients if you wish, best as you roll it out into 6 balls. Raw chilli cut very small adds a certain bite! Garlic works well. Cumin seeds are nice. Raisons are juicy if you like them.

To serve this hot if made in advance and cooled , simply wrap it in tin foil and place in oven for 5- 10 mins. You can brush butter on top before placing in oven if you wish.

Summary: Lovley authentic tasting Naan.

YES!!!

Naan is what every indian/pakistani person has had at least 100 times in thier life.

Its like really good bread, freshly made. With a nice layer of butter on top. Crunchy, crisp...and...amazing.

You bet it's good - especially, garlic naan! It's made with a yeast starter the same as sourdough is but isn't as tangy as sourdough ~ it has a, very, light flavour. Naan is baked on the wall of a very hot oven so it gets a bit puffy and browned. Indians bake it on the wall so it picks up some of the smoke-flavour coming up from the bottom of the oven. I used to watch this being made at a restaurant - it cooks, really, fast!
If you go out for Indian food, do not fill up on naan before the other food arrives..

ive had naan, its ok, not my favorite....but i like it. TRY IT!

It very good. I work for the Holiday Inn in Skokie, IL and theres an Idian restaurant there and we made naan homemade. Oh! my god, is it good. Its like a cross between pity bread and a flour tortilla. Order with Dahl. Its excellent! BYE,BYE.

yh man naaaaam iz jus tuu gurd

try it!!!

Yummy its great especially the Garlic naan dipped in a chicken tikka masala. :))

Garluc Naan ---- torn apart and used to dip in a nice curry sauce yummy

If thye bake it fresh - some restaurants can even get it to raise and then get it served hot and steamy.

Thanks for the great dinner idea!
