How can I tell if my whole chicken is done?!

Question: It's been in the oven for an hour at 400. It's about a 4 to 5 lb chicken. The thigh is white (or white as defined by thigh meat) but the juices are still red in that area. Does it need to go back in the oven?

grasp the chicken leg by the end of the bone, with a layered paper towel so as not to burn yourself. rotate it in the joint. if it is free in its rotation it is done. also, if the juices run clear that is another indicator.

poke it w a fork. if there is blood its not ready

If the juices are still red, than it is not ready. Put it back in the oven for another 15 minutes, and check again.

Do you have a meat therometer? If so, stick that in the breast of the chicken, and when it reads 180 degrees (F) then it is ready.

Good luck!

if its red, you gunna be dead, if its black, send it back, if its brown, no more frown,...i dont actually know what im talkin about....

As long as the juices run red or pink, it isn't done and NEEDS to go back in.
