Can shortening be a substitute for butter?!

Question: I am making cheesecake crust, would shortening work in the place of butter?

i wouldnt suggest that because the butter helps keep it together with the fats in it, if you wanted a good cheesecake use real butter, shorting is just oil when its cooked so you might as well add vegetable oil to it if you were using that but it makes it totally different taste and texture and may mess your recipie up completly

It might make it less healthy; shortening is hydrogenated oil.

yes, I use Crisco all the time.

If you are baking something yes like in a cake

i don't think so. you can't substitute butter for shortening because the shortening melts at hotter temperatures than butter.

It would work but may not be quite as good & will be worse for your arteries.
pp

You can use it but it won't taste as good.

Do yourself a favor and use butter

If it's graham cracker crust, margarine would be a better substitute. If you don't have margarine, then yeah, use the shortening.
