Kid Recipes!?!

Question: I am volunteering this summer at my church for a vacation bible school. We do sort of an indoor camp experience and I am running a cooking "cabin."

What I am looking for are some recipes or websites with some ideas for things that I can make with the kids. We're talking 3rd-5th grade and we can use an oven. Any ideas will help me greatly! Thanks!!

I applaud you! You are so sweet to do this. Someday they are going to have to cook for themselves and they will always remember you.

I served in a Cub Scout resident camp one year, teaching BB gun to boys 7-11. You have my respect...and sympathy. You go girl!

My kids love to make "Hawaiian Toast".
Just take a piece of bread, have them put on some mayo, put on a round slice of pineapple and cover the whole thing with a slice of american cheese. Sprinkle some paprika over the top (those are the party sprinkles) and bake in the oven for just a few minutes until the cheese melts. It's really delicious tasting. My kids love it. And love to make it.

make cookies,
gingerbread men

rice crispie treats!!!

Since it's a "cabin" go pioneer style. Have the kids make their own butter (heavy cream in a jar, shake until the butter forms), their own jam (try one of these: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search?q=homema... then they can make their own homemade biscuits, and or loaves of bread. You could even make jerky on a dehydrater. I taught summer school last year, we did these things to learn about how people survived when they didn't have the resources we have today. They had a great deal of fun and learned a lot too.

Go to the food network website or food .com. You'll surely get good simple ideas there. Also try the brand name foods(kraft, nestle, oscar meyer etc.)websites.

Or just eat the batter cuz it is sooooo tasty.

Fried worm sandwiches
Serves 4
What you'll need:
4 hot dogs
4 hot dog buns
1 tablespoon butter, softened
Assorted condiments
Directions:
Slice each hot dog in half lengthwise, then each half into thirds to make 6 worm-like strips per hot dog.
Make a few shallow cuts along the length of each strip on the skin side.
Open up hot dog buns and spread with butter. Then put them butter-side down in the nonstick skillet and lightly toast them over medium heat. When done, put them aside on serving plates.
Heat the hot dog strips in the skillet over medium heat until they are curly, hot, and browned to your liking.
Serve on the toasted buns and top with desired condiments.

You've gotten some good leads so far, so I won't add a recipe, but something that interests ME & I think would be a fantastic learning experience for the campers is a

HOMEMADE SUN OVEN / SOLAR OVEN! Cooking time is said to be about 2ce as long as an electric/gas oven, but your kids might be thrilled w/ the project & realize the potential of recycling, solar power, & survival too!
