Hi,
the George works, but the grill mark things can really dent your sandwiches - depending on the bread and fillings, plus you may want to shore it up to make it level... It is best for thin sandwiches since it doesn't close like a panini press - it closes on an angle instead of flatly on top (look at pictures of each online or at the store to see what I mean if that is unclear).
Try your non-stick skillet with whatever fat (butter, oil, etc...) and use a weight on top - a small cutting board or small pan or plate on top of the sandwich with some weight on it - cans are handy, just watch the heating of the cans.
Good Luck!

put them in a fry pan =)

The Foreman Grill is great for pressing sandwiches! I do it all the time!

The Foreman grill is very similar to a Sandwich press, so it will be fine to use

I use my Foreman grill to make my veggie paninis.
So, I'll say yes.
I don't know what kind of sandwich you're making (in terms of fillings) you may need to add some weight in you have a big sandwich, but other than that, I would say yes.

It sounds like someone needs a kitchen brick.
Take a plain old red brick and wrap it in foil.
Voila! The perfect sandwich press.
Works reat on grilled cheese, too.

If you have an iron skillet use that as a press in another skillet. You could also use the grill

you can put your done sandwhich in the oven and put some foil on two red blocks and press the sandwhich between the two tin foiled blocks! and just set it for warm or 300

a panini is a pressed sandwich. they even make panini grills which look almost the same as the foreman grill. yes that will work, and it will look nice with the grill lines on it. or you can put them in a large skillet with a little butter on each side and then put another heavy pan on top to weigh it down.

I don't have a sandwich press either but this is my shortcut. I take two similarly sized pans. Put both on the burner to heat. I also fill my kettle with water and heat that. Put the sandwich in one pan. Put the second pan on top, centered over the sandwich, and I put the hot kettle in the top pan. This way I have heat on both sides of the sandwich, and pressure on top. Works for me.
