eeewww ! boiling ribs........is not the way to cook them !! What type of ribs are you making. Grill BBQ ribs, oven baked, smothered ribs ? Once you boil them, I don't care what you do to them, they are still going to taste like they are boiled. You need to wash them really good, seasonsed them with BBQ seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, rub a little mustard on them (this will bring in the color and cook fairly fast, and tenderness), if you bake them.....just season them and place them in the oven, or if you smother them, put them into a deep pot, with just a little oil in the bottom (this will make a gravy or roo) throw in some onions and bell peppers and let them cook on a medium to low fire. mmmmmmm....good, good....stop boiling them ribs.....not sure what the reason is but you don't need to mess them up by boiling them.....yes, Im for the dirty (north) and this is the way it's done.

The purpose is to make them fall-off-the-bone tender. Simply boil for an hour in a pot of water with 1 onion, some garlic, and a bay leaf. Then either grill or bake in the oven with your favorite BBQ sauce.

It speeds up the grilling or baking time.I never parboil mine.Just cook low and slow.YUMMY !!!!

If you boil ribs or chicken before you grill, you will know for sure that it is cooked through. They will also be more tender. I cook ribs until the pink is gone. Chicken will look almost done. Bring your water to a boil before you drop the meat in.

The purpose of this step is to tenderize the meat. Ribs are a very tough cut of meat and need to be cooked slowly and for a great length of time.

The purpose is to pre-cook them in a way that doen't dry them out.
I disagree with method however because it removes a lot of flavor that will only be replaced by the sauce.
I like to apply a dry rub, cover and bake the ribs in the oven at 450f for about 30 mins, let cool and then finish on the grill, saucing only during the last 5 mins or so...yum.

It's to make them tender, but that's cheating. The BEST way is to start with a good quality of ribs, and cook them low & slow.

It to remove some of the fat and grease before grilling, It is also to tenderize them. It will also let them cook faster. You boil them until the are almost done. Some people bake them to accomplish the same thing

Because you want the meat to be done but not dry or black from the sauce getting burned while you try to wait for the inside to get done enough to eat.
I do this, for ribs and for corned beef, but by braising in liquid in the oven-cooking slowly and at a lower temp actually keeps the meat from getting tough and dry. Then just when they are almost done, I take the ribs out, season or sauce them up, and either put them on the grill or in the oven. The corned beef goes into the oven, just long enough to get a light crust. Yummy.
And you can use the broth so you may not want to throw it away.

I boil them first to make sure any parasites are killed. This way you can cook them slower and longer and still keep all their flavor.

It keeps them from drying out when you cook them. I part boil them for about 30 minutes.

I don't know the answer to your question, but your pickle picture made me laugh out loud!

My office-mates must think I'm nuts!!

Thanks for the giggle!

to cook some so you don't dry them out on grill from cooking to long.
