Are mashed potatoes worth the effort?!

Question: Can anyone say instant? Just peeled like 10 for dinner tonight.

Yes total!!! But i only do for thanksgiving rest of the year its out of a box!!

yes they are! i love from-scratch mashed potatoes (instant are good too though!).

Homemade is SOOOOO much better, and well worth the effort!!

what effort? mashed potatoes require almost no effort.

Instant mashed potatoes are awful.

compromise - get the frozen ones. Taste very close to fresh, no work - just a little more expensive. But then what is your time worth?

yes course i bet your homemade mashed potatoes are lovely and much better then shop brought !! :)

There is no comparison between the taste of Instant and Homemade..A little milk and butter..mash..mash..mash..ooooh soooo goooood!

it taste better if you put cream cheese in it!

Sorry Butterfly, but you cannot beat proper mash potatoes, you will have to invest in an electric potatoe peeler, i have sent you a link to have a look at one, there are loads on the market. and make life alot easier.

It doesn't take long to peel 10 potatoes. It didn't take much longer than posting this question.Homemade are the best but instant will do in a pinch.

I can play both sides of this fence well.

I love home made mashed potatoes with cream and butter.

However, those dried flakes are pretty good too. I know I'm not supposed to like them because they are "inferior" but I do anyway.

If I have time, I do it from scratch, if not, I open the box with no guilt.

Boxed is sooooo gross. And if you knew how they were produced you'd probably gag.

Buy thin skinned potatos and just wash them and mash them w/ the skins on if peeling them is such an effort.

No macaroni and cheese is a better side dish.

I would say so, mashed potatoes are very good

yes
instant junk is used only when you add too much milk

I'm sorry but instant tastes like flour and butter.

Yes, they are very much worth it, and especially at my house. My husband makes the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. I have to starve all day to accommodate the calories, but they are soooo worth it. He adds sour cream, cheese, bacon crumbles, and green onions. They are to die for, and I can use the leftovers as a base for baked potato soup for lunch, potato pancakes, or mixed into my quiche for Saturday morning breakfast!

use red potatoes and leave the skins on...add butter salt and cream or milk when done...mash them up, a fave of my kids and actually has more vitamins :)
you can also put a head of garlic in in some foil with olive oil ( don't peel the garlic) put it in the oven for 45 minutes at 350.
then squeeze out the garlic into the potatoes ( about 1 lb of potatoes ) it's SO good!

Homemade is most defiantly worth it. They taste totally different.

yes! homemade is where its at ! instant is ok if you don't have the time for homemade potatoes
