My son is nearly 7 months and so I am cooking for him too.
We had lasagne tonight actually!! That is actually a good food for a baby if made at home.
I mostly just give him finger foods as he doesn't like to be fed from a spoon and wants to do it himself, so I give him things like soft cooked veg, grated cheese, soft meat or fish.
He really loves roasted butternut squash and semi dried figs! (Not at the same time though!)
If you want to cook a meal and eat it together you could try cauliflower cheese and some carrot stick and broccoli.
Or a roast dinner, give her a roast potato, a bit of meat and some veg. No gravy as it has too much salt.
If you encourage her to feed her self (finger food) it will improve her hand eye coordination and as she gets older will be more accepting of new foods.
You can pretty much give your child anything you eat, as long as it doesn't contain salt or is too spicy.

Good value meals like jacket potatoes with any topping, pasta with a tomato sauce - in fact mix cooked pasta with a tin of tom soup, cover with cheese and bake until golden. That’s quite good value and baby friendly, serve with salad or soft steamed veg.
I always keep bas of frozen cauliflower and broccoli. They are much cheaper than fresh and last longer. They do go a bit soft when cooking but that’s perfect for a little one!

Best of luck and bright blessings.

wait, wait.... you feed your 8 month old lasagna and chips?

Thinking health wise..

Canned veggies are easy and affordable. Just heat them up for a few minutes on the stove. (for your 8mnth old)

My son is 8 months and I have givin him cut green beans since he was 6 months. Applesauce, finger cookies, soup. All of those are okay.

spaghetti& garlic bread, chicken and rice, soup and sandwiches get a cook book it`s really not that hard and it`s kinda fun once you get used to it . your baby could still be eating food from a jar until 1 year old~good luck to you.

Try www.bbc.co.uk/food loads of receipes and you can search by ingredients if you want as well. Get yourself a student cookbook (lots of cheap receipes) or a book called how to boil and egg. They give you loads of tips, like how long to cook potatoes etc.

pizza is very easy.

get bread, (doesnt matter what kind of bread. it can be wonderbread for all i care.) put spaghetti sauce, cheese, and some of your daughter's favorite veggies or something. pop it into a microwave oven or a regular oven, toast until brown and eat it!!

its very fast becasue the sauce is all premade and everythingg.

and its VERY easy. the hardest thing to do is to pop it into the oven...which actually iznt that hard AT ALL!!

*i recommend 350 degrees. for until brown or cheese is melted.*

hey. im a high schooler. and i started doing this pizza thing at middle school when my mom was at work. if i can do it, so can YOU!!!! :DD

good luckkk!!

noodles, canned fruits, applesauce, very small peices of chicken, jar baby food!!!

How much will baby eat at his first meal?

If your 6-8 month old baby is just starting solid foods, you will probably only manage to have baby eat 1/2 of the tablespoon sized portion the very first times you begin solids. If you are using a Baby Led Weaning approach, your baby may only manage to get a few pieces of food into his or her mouth. Don't fret if your baby does not "finish" a meal. Remember this is a new experience for your baby! As your baby becomes accustomed to eating solids, you will gradually increase the portion sizes. Remember, breast milk and/or infant formula are providing for the total nutrition of your baby at this stage! Read our How Much Food Should My Baby Eat page for more information.

Many parents find their babies will push the food out of their mouths on the first few tries. This is normal however it may also indicate that your baby is not yet ready for solid foods. Only you know your baby and will be able to decide if baby is truly ready for solids.

SOLID FOOD INTRODUCTION CHART
For Babies 6-8 Months old

AGE
& STAGE

The AAP recommends that an infant not be started on solid foods until after 6 months of age.

Many pediatricians still start babies on solids around 4 months of age.

This chart accommodates all ages and stages up to 12 months.

CEREALS

Try mixing together the grains that your baby has had without any reaction(s).
FRUITS

Begin making your own fruit combinations once baby has had several fruits without any reaction(s)

After 8 months old – you may wish to try offering raw ripe fruits

Soft cooked fruits make for great beginner FInger Foods; Learn about Introducing Baby Finger Foods!

VEGGIES

Veggie combinations are great to offer now. Ensure that all veggies have been previously offered without any reaction(s) prior to mixing & matching.

After 8 months old – you may wish to try offering soft cooked veggies in dices or tiny chunks and bits.

PROTEIN

Once your baby has reached 8 months old, try offering tofu finger cubes dusted with Cheerio “dust” or other cereal “dust”

Many pediatricians are now recommending Meats as first foods due to the Iron content - ask your pediatrician!
DAIRY

Around 8 months old, you should be able to offer plain whole milk yogurt and mild cheeses.

Mix some yogurt with a favorite fruit puree for a breakfast offering

(4)6-8 Months - Baby Let's Begin to Eat

"Baby" cereal and soft cooked thinly pureed fruits and veggies should be baby's first solid food experiences.

Single ingredients only and at a space of 4 days apart with introducing each new food.

You may skip the cereal and begin with a fruit like avocado or begin with a veggie like butternut squash or sweet potato.

7-10 Months - We're Moving On!

Bring on some spices (8 months old) and the softly mashed, or chopped into fine pieces of fruits, vegetables, meats, pasta and dairy such as yogurt and cheeses.

Pasta, veggies, and fruit should all be soft cooked and possibly mashed with a fork or masher. (Bananas need only be mashed.) Meats and proteins such as egg yolk, should be cooked and pureed or chopped into small soft bits. If offering Tofu, you need not cook it first.

Remember, baby will not have molars until sometime around the 12 month age range. Foods should be easily mashed between the gums!

i love my grandmas tatertot casserole and you can get all of the ingredients from discount supermarkets. and it is soooo fast and easy

1 lb. of gound beef
2 cans of mixed vegetables
2 cans of cream of mushroom OR cream of celery soup
tater tots

1.brown ground beef and season to taste
2.In another pan mix the soup and the vegetables and heat it up. Drain only 1 can of the mixed vegetables and leave the juice in the other for better flavor
3. line the bottom of a casserole dish with ground beef and pour soup and vegetable mix over the top.
4. top with tater tots and put in oven. cook until tater tots are brown. usually on 400 degrees for about 17 minutes.

It doesnt sound that great but it is DELICIOUS and everyone i have made it for LOVES it. We dont usually eat left-overs but this dish is even better as a left over. I have loved ever since i was little so your kids should enjoy it too.

wow lasagne + chips for a 8mth old ?? Somethings worng there...

I searched your problem and read through this website, and it has everything you need! Don't just skip my answer because there's a link it's REALLY helpful!! Good Luck!

MY BOYFRIEND AND I ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO BUDGET BUT I LOVE TO COOK HUGE MEALS... ALWAYS HAVE FROZEN CHICKEN BREASTS IN YOUR FRIDGE AND KEEP FRESH VEGGIES ON HAND..

MAKE SURE CHICKEN BREASTS ARE DEFROSTED BEFORE COOKING.. MARINATE THE CHICKEN IN ITALIAN DRESSING OVERNIGHT IN A ZIPLOCK BAG... GRILL THE CHICKEN UNTIL COOKED... YOU CAN CUT THE CHICKEN TO MAKE SURE ITS COOKED ALL THE WAY... ALSO, WHILE COOKING THE CHICKEN STEAM SOME VEGGIES LIKE BROCCOLI OR MAKE MASHED POTATOES.. SUPER EASY... PRETTY FAST, KIDS ALWAYS EAT CHICKEN.

OTHER GOOD VEGGIES TO HAVE FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY, PEAS, GREEN BEANS, CARROTS. THESE FOODS ARE SOFT ENOUGH FOR THE LITTLE ONE TO EAT.

My mother used to make this dish when I was at home and and for 20yrs I have been making. (Not every night of course) but it is called "Chicken that makes its own Gravy"
Start with Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts. (Cut into smaller Pieces) Apx. 4 Breasts. Melt butter in a baking pan for a heavy coating. Lightly roll chicken breasts in flour and place in pan. Cover with foil and cook for 15-20 min at 450 then take out and turn over and cook for another 15-20 min.
While this is cooking take a can of Cream of Mushroom soup and empty in to a med. pan. Add apx. 3/4 can of evaporated milk. Cook until well blended and add 1-2 cups of shredded cheese (depending on your taste). Pour mixture on top of chicken and return to oven for apx. 30min. Serve with your favorite veggies.... Remember this can be made less fattening. Use low fat Cream of Mushroom soup and low fat canned milk. Use also a low fat cheese. The chicken breasts are already skinless and white meat so no problem there. I also have a 8mo old granddaughter and she likes it. I just cut the chicken into tiny pieces for her. Hope you enjoy it........

Its ok I was there with my first daughter. I was so afraid to give her the food we where eating. But found out that if you are having something she takes an interest in you can blend it up in the food processer til its fine and she can eat just what you are. As long as its not to spicy of course. So for example if its spaghetti and meatsauce, hold back on some of the seasonings you add about 1 c of pasta and sauce total, toss it in to the blender or processer and have at it. I will admit its gonna be messy but saves on baby food your your budget and gets her liking some of the foods you cook early.

But if this isnt something you want to try here is a website I frequently go back to for ideas on how to get my picky girls to eat new things. Also keep in mind this too, not all children at that age are ready for tablefood, might want to wait til they hit a yr old before introducing more textured food from your table to their pallet. Good luck and dont forget your raingear..lol

Here are some ideas .....

Hearty Chicken Pot Pie

1 package (16 ounces) frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
1 cup cut-up cooked chicken
1 can (10 3/4 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup Original Bisquick? mix
1/2 cup milk
1 egg

1. Heat oven to 400oF. Mix vegetables, chicken and soup in ungreased 2-quart casserole.
2. Stir remaining ingredients in small bowl with fork until blended. Pour into casserole.
3. Bake 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Special Touch
If desired, stir in 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves, dried sage leaves or pepper.

Substitution
Use condensed cream of mushroom soup or condensed cheese soup instead of the chicken soup to give this dish a whole new taste!

Variation
For Hearty Beef Pot Pie, use 1 cup cut-up cooked leftover or deli roast beef instead of the chicken and condensed cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken.

Cornbread-Topped Chicken Pot Pie

1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1/2 teaspoon peppered seasoned salt
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1 jar (12 oz) chicken gravy
1 bag (1 lb) Green Giant Select? frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower
1/2 cup sour cream
1 pouch (6.5 oz) Betty Crocker? cornbread & muffin mix
1/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese

1. Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Sprinkle chicken with seasoned salt. In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook chicken and onion over medium-high heat 4 to 6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chicken is brown.
2. Stir in gravy. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until chicken is no longer pink in center. Meanwhile, place vegetables in colander. Rinse with hot water until thawed. Remove chicken mixture from heat. Stir in vegetables and sour cream; keep warm.
3. In medium bowl, mix cornbread and muffin mix, milk, butter and egg with spoon just until moistened (batter will be lumpy). Spoon chicken mixture into baking dish. Drop batter by spoonfuls around edges of warm chicken mixture. Sprinkle cheese over batter.
4. Bake uncovered 20 to 22 minutes or until cornbread is deep golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Success
Make sure that the chicken filling is still hot before dropping the cornbread batter on top to ensure that the cornbread will bake throughout.

Substitution
This recipe will work with lots of other vegetable combinations. Let your family pick their favorite, or you can substitute leftover cooked vegetables for the frozen vegetables.

Chicken Divan

2 1/2 cups cooked chopped broccoli
2 cups shredded, cooked chicken meat
2 (4.5 ounce) cans mushrooms, drained
1/2 small onion chopped
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon curry powder
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Arrange cooked broccoli in a lightly greased 3 quart casserole dish. Arrange chicken over broccoli. Add mushrooms and onions.
In a medium bowl combine the soup, mayonnaise, lemon juice, curry powder and butter/margarine. Mix together and pour mixture over chicken and vegetables. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes.

Barbecue Chicken Sandwiches:

1 3 1/2- to 4-pound rotisserie chicken, meat shredded (about 5 cups)
1 to 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce
1/4 cup pickled jalape?os, roughly chopped (optional)
4 hamburger buns
Potato chips (optional)

In a bowl, combine the chicken, barbecue sauce, and jalape?os (if using). Divide the mixture evenly among the bottoms of the buns and sandwich with the tops. Serve with potato chips (if using).

Yield: Makes 4 servings

I wonder if she likes chicken, you can get two for eleven quid from Tesco. and out of that if there are three of you I bet you can get three nights food out of one chicken. It is so simple, if you havent got a steamer, they are about 9.99 get one! so the first night you have chicken, carrotts, cabbage and potatoes all done in the steamer and some gravy granules.
Save half the cabbage in the fridge in clingfilm and have some carrotts and possibly a bit of swede left in the fridge for a few days.

Next night you could get a small jar of chicken tonight and put some of the chicken in the sauce and have with rice., or chicken chips and peas.

lastly with the bits of meat left and the carcass, put it into a pan with boiling water boil for 15 minutes, let it cool down and get all the bones out with your fingers, then add a carrott or two, 2 finely chopped leeks and three diced potates, a chicken stock cube and boil till you have a thickish soup, and serve that with some crispy bread or sandwhiches..
Thats three nights....................or two if you freeze the soup in portions for another night.

I am quite sure you could make mince and onions with carotts and mash potato for a couple of nights, then back to the chicken...........sounds boring but if you are on a budget it is a way of getting all your veg, just buy whats in season and the best value.

Scrambled egg and beans on toast is good for you, with wholemeal bread.

For puddings, tesco do lovely yogurts I think they are 13p each........and you could add half a banana each to the yoghurt......... I am sure if you try that you will come up with different meals. The great thing about a steamer too is you arn't using three rings for cooking, just one, just remember to put the stuff that takes the longest in first, then add the lighter veggies after the spuds.....

spag bol always goes down well....join the library and get out some books or go onto the internet BBC1 food and you can get lots of recipes. You can jazz up a dirt cheap pizza with a bit of grated cheese and mushroom and a pepper....

When I am a bit skint I go on a chicken week.....

Oh and Corned beef hash, tin of corned beef, boil potatoes and onions in water, drain mash and mash in corned beef, lovely with beans.

good luck

loads vegetable soups too, cheap as chips and good for you , just use potatoes to thicken all the time, and its filling...................good luck, together with everbody elses answers you should have lots of ideas..

I have a 1 1/2 year old baby cousin, but when he was in that 8 months stage my mom and i always made german pancakes, and for you...u can leave out the sugar...but they are healthy... here's the recipe for 3 of them...by the way they are flat.

6 eggs
1 c flour
1 c milk
1/2 sugar (optional)

After mixing, pour into a big skillet, but only until the batter reaches the edges, not all the way to the top. Wait until it seems solid enough at the bottom to flip it over. wait for about 2 mins...VOILA!!! GERMAN PANCAKE! lol hope that helps.

there is nothing wrong with feeding your daughter lasagne +chips has long as it not every day.
i give my 7 month old son everything im having, so if im having jacket potateos with cheese +beans ,then he has it. like last night we had salmoln fish cake with mushy peas.
why not make stews and things like that . there easy just chop your veg add your meat, and stock an dleave to cook on it own . easy meal which is really healthy.
