For my graduation cake I wanted to make a s ort of representation of escalotor stairs help?!


Question: I want to make a cake that represents the stairs at the Rossyln metro station in D.C. thier sort of the symbol I use to show how far I've come towards achieving my goal of going to the Art Institute. I already have a recipie for fondant but can anyone give me some tips on how to better achieve this and make it look semi decent?

I'd make a thin base cake... the whole length of the escalator for it to sit on top of.
Then I'd cut and stack shorter pieces of cake to actually form the escalator.
Make sure you use a pound cake or similar sturdy cake. You won't want to use anything super moist... it won't hold up well under the pressure of being stacked.

I would make a 2D side view of escalators. Just bake a cake, cut it the shape of the escalators: http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/patog/w... And put some writing at the top like "finally made it" or something. You can even just make a rectangular cake and pipe a drawing of the escalators on. It would be better for everyone involved. Who wants to eat an actual escalator?
