i too am on a budget. here are some ideas, hope they help

sloppy joes with tator tots

spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread

frito pie

vegetable beef soup with cornbread

pork chops with brown rice and broccoli

chicken alfredo with broccoli

chili cheese dogs with homemade fries

canned meats like chicken, tuna, and ham, rice and pinapple or mandrin oranges cook rice in juice sautee meats with fruit! with the tuna add some lemon juice!!spagetti, pizza bobs, hamburger helper, sandwitches, chicken and waffles, cream chip beef, make big meats then cut down for sandwitches and soups!

What kid doesnt kid homemade mac and cheese (with a diced meat in it) or Franks and beans (and make it your own by adding a BBQ suace or something like that to it)

things that always seem to win the hearts of every one are tacos, pasta and chili! all of which can be nice and easy on the wallet and fun for lunch the nest day! for tacos all you need to do for lunch the nest day is take hard shells(in a separate), meat(cooked in a separate), and all your toppings(together in a separate). microwave your meat, toss it in with your toppings and crunch in some taco shells and there you go! taco salad!

A beef stew has vegetables and meat could last 2 days. Spaghetti and meat balls. If time is an issue the stores have a variety of meats potatoes and vegetable that are heat and eat. Just a few ideas hope they helped.

how about tuna / pasta salad,,,,
homemade curry/rice,,,,
homemade beef stew,,,just a few ideas

I know when it is just me and my son I tend not to bother with large meals (my husband is the picky eater). We tend to be just fine with things like soup, hot dogs, stew, chili, burgers. Just make sure you are getting some vegs and fruits everyday as these can sometimes get lost especially on a tight budget. Check out the reduced produce in the grocery store. A lot of the time there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. My son is quite keen on cut up raw veg and fruit. I could put out a bowl of cut up red pepper and he'd eat it up before anything else. Kids are quite keen on raw vegs and dip, make your own, it will be cheaper, look for packets of dried veg soup, usually there is some kind of dip recipe on them, mix it up with sour cream or plain yogurt, something like that. Or buy containers of fruit yogurt and use for dip with fruit.

Here's a hint for when you buy things at the store: for things like a container in the produce section with different fruit in it, is probably 3 times more expensive than the actual product because you are paying for the labor. So if it looks like there was labor involved and you can do it yourself, do it, it usually costs less.

An exception to this rule might be something like pie crust or pizza dough, but compare a recipe and how much it costs verses a commercially made one -- might cost less...

Hey! anyways, a good cottage pie is fun & cheap! plus, theres gobs of leftovers. Also, check out this site, kid friendly and cheap recipes! Hope it helps

I think casseroles are the way to go.Thats what I do,I live alone. When I shop,I pick up tater tots, canned soups, mixed vegetables and noodles.Just use the soups for moisture, the tater tots are cooked and so are canned veggies.Find what works.I like tater tots, canned vegetables(mixed-drained),can of cream of cheddar, small onion, can of milk and left over chicken.Mix well and pour in casserole.Sprinkle with small amount of cheeses and bake at 350 for 30 mins.Good cheap and fast..Hope this helps...
